so ive lurked this forum for years and have always wanted a pre-war rod but was never in the position to own one. this January that changed. ive had a thread going on another forum but figured i should post up here... Original steel 1930 ford roadster. Previous owner claims the car was built and raced in the 60s Boxed frame Dropped model a axle Disc brakes up front 1957 Oldsmobile 9.3" rear end with 3.20 gears Heated seats Cab heater Stewart Warner gauges LS1 GM ASA cam LS7 lifters LS3 corvette balancer and waterpump LS2 oil pump and timing chain Edelbrock 4 bbl intake Holley 600 MSD timing control relocated coils and Olds rocket valve covers over stock covers. 2004 z06 clutch, flywheel set 1985 Camaro t5 5 speed
i buttoned up a few items on the list shortly after i picked it up. -added baffles to the headers -removed the drivers side allen wrench door pins and found some brass pins -replaced the front mount for the pass side olds valve cover -got the fuel gauge working -dialed in the carb -repaired a vacuum leak -removed the painted feet things i still need to do include: have a snap tonneau cover made hook up the water temp gauge hook up the speedo cut a piece of alum or stainless to sit behind the gauge panel to clean up the gaps add hinges to the deck lid
fresh Dexron III bled and replaced the clutch fluid adjusted the shifter adjusted the e-brake also got the water temp gauge working interior door handles came in i was told they were pre tapped and came with set screws -____- but since of course that wasnt the case. so i had to tap them myself... boom spent the day cruising with my Brandan and his awesome '36...and yes it has a proper flathead
The car has a nice profile. And as long as you don't get too close to the engine, it will fool a lot of folks. Fun and reliability!
thanks guys! also here are pics i forgot to upload from Donut Derelicts a few weekends ago brisk 41 degrees at 6am http://vidmg.photobucket.com/albums/...psafddzx3g.mp4 then last week I finally made a door panel for the passenger side
Hell Yes! what's not to like there? They all look best at 60 M.P.H. and I like your Girl Friend. The Wizzard
thanks everyone! i do really need to get some hinges on the rear deck lid...it would make fueling up much easier
so today i spent most of the afternoon making a trim piece with stainless steel for around the gauges you can see all the holes and hacks from over the years so then i made a template didnt take many pics of the rest of the progress but here is what i ended up with
Heated seats, and an LS1, I started thinking this is going to be interesting. Wow, what a surprise. That's a great looking car, and the engine would fool me, if I saw it in the flesh. I'll bet it's got some power. Very cool.
Looks good and nice pics. Brisk 41 degrees ha! Try owning a roadster in Minnesota we look forward to those days.
Just noticed the closed car dash, that had to be a lot of work to get it it fit so nicely under the windshield. Bob
I was in the same boat, but man that's a sharp little roadster. Love the improvements you've been making, looking forward to seeing more.
haha yeah they are cool. pretty popular so-cal chopper guys. thanks yeah its crazy quick thats for sure. id say its around 400hp. the weak point is def the trans. i make sure to remember that as im rowing through the gears. thanks! haha i spent 28 years living in Buffalo NY...im well aware of cold...lets just say ive thawed out living here yeah i was impressed at the good work then at some of the bad work hahah thanks! like i said i really need to get on some deck lid hinges...
Unknown manufacture chrome hinges... might be marine "hatch hinges"... 1937 Ford flat back hinges are solid, need some left to right tapering for the lid hinge pins to more closely align... the roadster has a longer deck than the coupe... many more options for the roadster...
so after work today i decided to fix my loose seat. cut a few pieces of this and drilled some holes also cut this tab to go on the back so the seatback doesnt slip backwards under hard acceleration also had an incorrect fuel cap on the tank which would leak slightly. ended up finding a bunch of old NOS caps and found one that fits way better then it was time for coffee
