I'm working on mounting the steering in my truck and all of a sudden this key falls on the floor. Can anyone tell me if it could be the ignition key, and what is u456? Tony
Yale was a manufacturer of early padlocks, but I've also seen Yale key blanks. I'm thinking that U456 is the blank number. It could be for just about anything that fit that blank.
The top picture seems to show it is well used. Ignition keys are the only ones I can think of that show a lot of use.
I'd say it's a padlock key. Did your truck have a tool box in the bed. Or maybe at one time it did? Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
The lettering on the key in the second picture stands for Dodge, Desoto, Plymouth, Chrysler! It could be for a locking Gas Cap from the Chrysler Accessory Book, or the door lock, or the ignition, who knows? KK
KoolKat-57 Just tried it in the passenger door, it went in but did not turn. Lot of good answers and a lot of fun ones.
a couple pics...can't see the keys very well, but look like they could be it. supposedly for 1940s dodge trucks? old ebay auctions.
My guess would be the glove box or gas cap. Yale made locks for Chrysler and Studebaker, among others in sure...
Chrysler Products used Yale locks for decades. My '24 DB has a Yale door lock and transmission lock. Could be glove box, door, etc.
With Jim.....could be a lock for the wheel.....glove box.....or an extra for something....original - but maybe your ignition switch had been swapped out ?
