Traded off my 90 Ford f150 for a restored (amateur) 37 Dodge PU, plans right now are to use a 55 flathead 6 with real low miles on rebuild and either a Tattersfield dog bone or Edmunds dual carb intake and some Fenton cast headers, and a 3" dropped axle, the only concessions to a modern drive train will be using T5 and a 70's Dart differential for better highway cruising and pulling a trailer to swap meets. Going to start looking for sun visor and fender skirts at swap meets, just tired of the same styles of cars and trucks and this is different.,
You probably know by now that the thin stainless headlight rims are a problem and consider yourself fortunate if you have a crank hole cover. I had to make one.
It also came with spare front (with spare tire wells)and rear fenders as well as extra transmissions, trim parts, it is already converted to 12 volt
Nice pickup . How about a slant six industrial Chrysler they have larger mains and throws than the automotive engines . Its your truck build it as you want just a suggestion . Hopped up flatheads are cool .
I have all the period correct parts for the 230 flathead, and the plans are to tow a 7ft. enclosed trailer to swap meets in a 500-7oo mile radius and being a graybeard as my kids call me I'm a slow driver and stop a lot.
Love that era Dodge! You didn't ask for opinions, but I'd skip the visor & skirts. IMO it looks beautiful without them.
Jalopy, where in Oregon are you located? I have a '36 Dodge pickup with a 1958 230. I'm in Madras OR right on Hwy 97 south of town. I also have some hop up goodies to go on my flat 6. Dave
Love your truck, mine is a 1949 and it has a 1937 218 in it. Those old farmers would swap in anything that ran. Pretty amazing the old flat sixes were produced as long as they were with no real changes.
dwollam, I've stopped and looked at your '36 when passing by. Good looking truck. I'm looking for hop up goodies for my flat 6 but haven't pulled the trigger yet on new stuff. Also considering the A-833 4 speed trans or the T5. Either you or Jalopy have any experience on the best way to go with that?
You're probably on the west side of 97 with all the yard art , it's always early or really late when I go by your place..(eyeballing a touring car) I'm in Christmas Valley.
I just got my adaptor kit to use a T5 from Langdons Stovebolt, will only work with the truck bellhousing.
I know it's now considered a low rider thing now, but I can remember a kid in high school ( 61-65?) with fender skirts on his Dodge PU and when I saw this picture. it brought back old memories.
Decided to go with an Edmunds intake utilizing Stromberg carbs. Got the Fenton cast exhaust heders, now the search is on for an aluminum head for the 23" block.
I'm getting Sid @ www.droppedaxles.com/ to drop the axle 3+" and machine the axle ends to accept Ford spindles, so I can use my 50 Merc rims on the truck.
