I just put together a Cadillac big block 472. Now I'm bolting on the accessories and noticed that my new belts don't fit down in the v-groove pulleys all the way. The top edge of the belts are slightly below the top rim of pulley, but there's 1/4" of light between the bottom edge of the belt and the pulley. the Is that normal? I confirmed that I have the correct part numbers on both Napa and Advanced Auto.

that is how they are supposed to be. You do NOT want the belt to bottom out in the pulley.

Squirrel is absolutely correct. The sides of the belts are supposed to drive against the sides of the pulleys. If they bottom out in the pulley they will slip.

Thanks. I was wondering if that was the case. It makes sense that if they were touching on the bottom then the sides wouldn't make much contact thus reducing the total surface area and friction.
