History A History of the Anglia Gasser

Man this is great stuff now also from HOTRODDON as you can tell from some of my threads I REALLY enjoy the history of these cars. Well done all of you.

 

Walt Orr was the driver of theFossil Anglia he tiped it on it's side and then later came out with a vega.

 

Larry I just came across this post and I believe this car ran at Dover Dragstrip in the mid 60's. I do believe there are some more pictures here on HAMB. I'll inquire on the Dover site.

Larry, the car was owned by Moe Delage, Moe Delage was an icon in the Waterbury, CT area. If you were into cars, you knew the name, Moe Delage. Moe raced a variety of cars over the years. He worked in the auto parts business
and later opened a Deb's Speed Shop and racing a 69 Camaro. No one knows where the car went but it was/is very similar to a friend Frank Majauskas Anglia, Frank told me "I can't remember where we bought our Anglia, but it had the same inward reversed rear wheels and the car was painted orange with a glass nose. The car was pretty rough. When we stripped the paint off, there were about 4 other colors, blue, green, yellow, etc. Could our car be Moe's old Anglia Don't know" That car has been gone for a long time. Moe died several years ago.

For Larry T yes this car did run at Dover never knew anything about ownership but did see it run.

And Debs was a sponsor of many famous (for our area) cars including Ralph Ridgeway of ridgeway ram fame.

 

Thanks for the information, the car looks a lot like one that ran down here. But I've seen quite a few that were set up the same way with the Olds Toronado rear wheels and stock front ends on them. Thanks again.

Yes, it did. Ran with several different drivers, as Gary the owner was actually afraid (his words to me..!) to drive it.
Went thru at least two other owners, before it went on e-bay and back east.
One owner wanted to put it back on the street. I suggested that wasn't a good idea with that frame. I guess he finally saw the "light..!"
I "almost..." bought it back when Gary originally put it up for sale. One of my hang-ups, he wouldn't put the two sets of front and one set of rear Halibrands in with the deal. There was a couple of other things that soured the deal.

Son of Kong belongs to someone from the Buffalo, NY area.

 

Jim Zakia is currently restoring his old Anglia in Niagara Falls. Mike Zieminick's Hyper Anglia is another west coast car formerly known as the Hawaiian Punch.

A couple of comments

 

This one has always been one of my favorites. My understanding is that it ran a destroked 283.




here is is in red I am guessing this would have been around '65. really digging the lucas flamethrowers.

 

I have the copy of Rod and Custom that Speed Gems posted on page 1 of this great thread. Page 2. this one.

That picture of the Anglia "highboy" proved to be a major influence on me and I've used it as inspiration to build two of my own. Question: Does anyone have any more information on it as to my knowledge, that's the only picture ever captured of a seriously cool little car.

 

I think I've seen that one some where before. (I'm sitting about 20' from it right now.)
