I'm 6'5" and I love model A's. I bought a coupe but ended up building a coupster so I could ride in it. I built a 41 Chevy coupe prior and loved it. I am trying to find the best of both worlds for me. Has anyone pulled off a fenderless 40's era car that looked right? Most that I have seen are long in the rear and just don't look right. Maybe graft a late 30's tail to a 40's car to make it look correct. Does anyone have pictures of pulling this off and it looking right?

Any thing can be done. But that doesn't mean you should do it. Follow your dream. But IMO, the best part of an early 40's car are the fenders.

PS: Try to find a shoebox. You'll fit and be happy.

Buick, Studebaker, Chrysler, and many other more luxury makes built roadster bodies in the late 20's and early 30's that would take the fenderless treatment so much better and they are massive inside compared to a Model A.

If I wanted a fenderless car with lots of legroom inside, I'd look for a body from a big car from the Model A era.

There was a cut down bullet nosed Studebaker open wheeled car that had a few pictures floating around on here a few years ago that kinda worked, but it was narrowed, which kinda eats up a lot of the space you gain with the later body anyway.

Never saw a 40's car w/o fenders that looked good. That includes the 40's tub.

Good looking fenderless 40's cars are as rare as frog hair.

This just goes to show that no matter how much money and quality workmanship you throw at some projects, they just don't come out well in the end.

I seen a few fenderless 40's cars that were tastefully done but not too many. Almost as hard to build a Rudy inspired bobber style truck. Most look like ass.

  14. I've seen one or two that looked ok,but they had done a lot of metal work around the back wheels and rear deck lid area...

A lot of work for less than stellar results. HRP.

Hamber Flynn. Built a good looking 37 fenderless. There was a lot of metal work to this.
    I wouldn't ever attempt it.

Never saw a 40's fenderless car in person and from seeing a couple pics of them i know why. I'm 6'5" ,250 and fit in my model a couple comfortably . Anything more than my 2" chop and 2 1/2" channel would make it tight though

The only ones I've seen are like the two Chevy's above---dirt track styled. The only reason they work is the nose is pointed, on a flatter front end like a 46-48 Ford it would look plain goofy. Fenders are so much a part of the overall styling on 40's cars it's almost impossible to pull them off without the car looking odd. It would be the first thing you'd notice instead of the overall impact of the car, something was missing....

My question is; Has anyone ever built a 40's car, without the car and only the fenders?

    Hmmmmm???
