Feb. 23, 1945. It wasn't long after this date, that those kids came home. Some didn't. Some went to the new industrial age that had grown. Some went back to the farms they had grown up on. And some, with the knowledge and skills learned in the war, settled back into Hot Rodding and started a new generation of FAST. So, while today seems like just another day.... take a few minutes to pause, think and remember.... never forget. DC2 Wyche 1989-1999

I hate to rant but it frosts my ass when I see Ms Fonda , protesting for American's rights . WTF does she understand about what it took to keep those rights she protested against . It's America love it or leave it Jane ! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
My grandfather didn't come back from Iwo Jima....he was relegated to being a stretcher bearer on the island..., after he had severe shell-shock, jitters, nightmares, and from an earlier campaign, which they wouldn't let him carry a gun any longer, because he would just start shooting in any direction all of a sudden, day or night, screaming and wide-eyed. Those guys went thru' some awful stuff....my other grandfather, who was also in the Pacific, would NEVER talk about it. My surviving grandfather was big into hot rods, old log trucks, and a great mechanic....but he had a period in his life which he thought better to leave covered. I really respect these guys
Yes, the flag we know from; print and movies was the second flag raised. I recently learned that a family member on my mothers side was one of the raisers of the original flag. It was a much smaller one that was carried by one of the Marines. The first was raised during the battle.
When I was an 11 year old Boy Scout a neighbor fellow came me the canteen he carried when he landed on Iwo Jima as a United States Marine. I still have it and cherish it. RIP, Mr. John Whitman.
