Rear quarters are coming along & had fun taking the dash apart lol, now need to clean it up and put it back together.

  2. If you guys had a choice what transmission would you use behind your flathead. Stock 3 speed with OD, C4 or a T5?

The factory overdrive trans is a good one, and everything is already engineered to fit, including the column shift. I'd run that.

I agree 100%. Ran the stock OD trans in my 51 Merc for a number of years. Worked great.

  5. Thanks Guys. I have the stock 3 speed OD all rebuilt ready to go but I also have a C4 I could put in it. Can't really decide witch way to go.

holy crap those 49 Mercs are one of the beautifullest cars I ever have seen. I will never have one but like to see yours come together.
    keep up the good work

  7. I thought the same, but they must be prone to breaking because i had a really hard time finding a usable pair. And they are not cheap either.

Cool mercury, by the way. I would go without handles, but keep them in storage.

I have a tuned flathead with the original 3 Sp. with OD in my Mercury and i like it. It's nice to drive even in today's traffic.
A friend has the same transmission but without OD in his merc and he has a hard time keeping up with modern traffic.

The C4 may require trans tunnel modification, first year for automatics was 51. An operating Overdrive will be no problem keeping up with todays traffic as stated above. I'm quite happy with mine.

you gonna keep the chrome or shave it?

  11. Ok that is great information thanks guys. I will keep the stock OD.

I'm going to get rid of the chrome except the strip just under the Windows and I'm going to keep the Mercury on the hood.

Looks great, pitch the door handles, but keep the side trim.

Maybe this helps you a bit.Not my car.The side of the radiator support mounts to the wheel housings.3 screws on each side. There is some rubber between the lower radiator support and the frame.Thickness may vary to due height alinement.

  21. Thanks a lot that's what I was looking for. Mine has three holes so I was wondering if you used the two like it is. That's how I have it now with a body mount cut in half under the support. Thanks
