Olskool you really did those caps justice with the polishing work!
I am thinking about doing another version without the wings for those who want a smoother look.

That's what I'm talking about! Olskool how did you go about that? I have a buffer for polishing, but what wheel and grit of rouge did you use?

  5. I used a palm sander with various grit paper, 400, 600, 800, 1000,1500,2000. being careful not to press to hard around the face. Now in all honestly, I did use a flat file in some areas to knock down some high spots before sanding. Once I finished sanding I used White Diamond alum polish and rubbed it on the cap and then began working it, in about a 2" area at a time with a table top mounted grinder with a buffing wheel on it. It went very fast. No rouge used, only aluminum polish.

Here is my latest V8 cast hubcap design. I found a pic online of an old cast cap that I thought looked cool but the hub is for a much smaller wheel. I designed a larger version of it that like the Mercury will fit 32-35 ford and Kelsey wire wheels. Check it out.

I was on the fence of ordering the Merc caps. You just put me over the edge with the V8 caps. I want a set.

I think the wire wheel crowd could use another cap besides the re-pros available.

I started on mine, using a buffing wheel and fine sand paper. Still aways to go, but much better looking. [IMG]
