Couldn't be Fontana unless he was running back up the fire-up lane to the pits.

  4. Guys say Irwindale, I have no reason to doubt that. I thought LIONS because I can't see the famous Irwindale snack bar in the background, but I was never there so I don't know.

Red car is the Mike Sorokin driven "Hawaiian II"
It's sitting in a garage, waiting for the restoration to get finished.

    "TV Tommy Barnstormer?"

Yep, good call. The original version with the "Barn Door" Enderle and the 12 spoke Americans. This shot is from Lions in mid July 1962, two weeks after the car made its debut at Seattle. Read about it here:

  11. '57 Mercury actually, I think. Still not a very common sight on a drag strip though.

This appears to be the Ward and Warye Longshot in a later life, not quite as nice as when Mo drove it.

This is the second of Garlits' rear engine Darts, both of which did not survive very long prompting the construction of the dragster framed roadster. At the time of this photo is was being run by Jay Howell and Dick Branstner before Mopar handed it over to Big. Read Geoff Stunkard's story about it here: http://www.hotrod.com/articles/don-garlits-dart-games/
