Thanks, Maggie. I think I get it. While they were lowering the surrounding ground level during the regrade project, the tracks were supported on wood so they could remain in use.

Remarkable how a single shot can spark an interesting side story.

^^ Yeah, lots of detail in that one - Looks like a halibrand quick change, and maybe Buick brake drums. It must be good to have GM's prototype build facility at your disposal when you want to build a Hot Rod.

My point is that while it may not be photoshop, when you research all his steam locomotive and other shots that appear to be period it is disappointing to find that they were all set up. Diesels were already the order of the day, and he had all those steam shots in the landscapes staged with the help of the railroads. Not to take away from his talent as a photographer, but they are not the candids they appear is all.

The "5 spoke mag wheel" thread joggled my memory: 1964 NY Fair, now on I-94 in Deetroit.

I got to sit in this one before it was shipped to Germany for a TOTALLY underseved restoration back to the 1908 Mercedes GP car. The car finished in 4th place in the first INDY 500 driven by Spencer Wisehart. Bob
