History A High School Kid's Dream Car -- 1939

When my mom passed last year, at age 92, I was going through her stuff and stumbled across some sketches my dad had done in high school. I'd never seen them, he'd never pulled them out, but that was the kind of guy he was; quiet, humble and rock solid. He went on to build a roadster (though not as elegant as the one here) and in 1939, at 17 years old, he managed to clock a time of 100.56 mph at Harper Dry Lake.

He passed well before my mom and I still really miss him -- especially his knowledge and encouragement out in the shop.

 

Real cool, I used to draw in class all the time, that is a true treasure you found.

How cool is that! Sorry for the loss of your Mom. Your Dad must have been one very interesting guy. 100.56 mph on the lake-bed at age 17! That is way cool.

I feel your pain, still lots of things I wish I could ask my Dad about his racing days, keep him in my avatar so I can see him everyday. You should frame it and hang in you shop so he is there everyday.

I would have had the wife run to get a frame for that awesome drawing. By the time she got back I would have begun locating the parts to start assembling that timeless beauty.

I would take that to a framer and have it done as they can use the proper materials to preserve it. That drawing is priceless to you and your family. Great find!!

He was a bit of an artist too!! I wonder what he ending up doing for a living?

 

Really cool, I was very close with my grandfather he passed in 09. Not a day goes by that I don't want to call him up and ask his advise on something. He was my Hero and Mentor. I purchased his farm 5 years ago and feel his presence in every building full of useless junk...Lol. he is the reason I followed in my father's foot steps and got into cars even though he was a die hard antique tractor guy.

True family treasure... a snapshot into your dads mind when he was 17...post depression, pre WW II priceless !
copy it, frame it, but first put his name and hometown on the back of the copies for prosperity...
i'm an early ford guy but he seems to have been much more open minded... sprint / midget car top left, custom cabriolet, a back to the future should have been... oh and the queen, the A roadster..
I WILL DONATE A PAIR OF '30 HEADLIGHTS IF YOU BUILD HER...

It just was! Fabian Valdez had his roadster in the Suede Palace at the GNRS this year -- the resemblance was uncanny. I loved this car, one of my faves of the entire show.

 

LOL... Yep, that's him at 0:55 making the Mickey Mouse ears. My uncle shot the film.

One of my favorites of the show too. I would probably put some Deluxe Champions on the front.....love the tires on the back though.

 

I think that is what this site is all about , the drawing , your mother , and the history of your father .

Make a copy to frame. Light can really yellow that old paper. Cool find.

 

A good photo or a high quality scan will preserve it & the imagery adjusted then a print can be run off at any scale.

I spent plenty of time checking out that Model A roadster at the GNRS. I had no idea that Fabian built it. Well done.
