Have you ever tried calling on one of them car for sale ads in the back of an old hot rod magazine??? Just makes me sick to see the prices on the old hot rods back then but back in them days the prices were probably thought to be a little high...What would really suck is if for some ,would never happen, reason you could buy one today at the price it was advertised back then and you didn't have the cash available at the time.....[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

I know a gentleman in his 80's and was a model maker for GM and worked on some of the 58 Chevy designs. He told me a story how the original design was more of a continuation of the 55,56,57 and that 59 was suppose to be the next big change. Part way into their work on the 58, GM designers made changes most notably the dual headlights like their competitors already had and the introduction of the Impala line. I often wondered what the original 58 Chevy design might have looked like. Perhaps this picture with some obvious carry overs from the 57 model might be of one of the early concepts. Despite 58 being a "one of " year, I think it turned out to be one of the nicer Chevy designs.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Bounty Hunter must have been over priced, he kept it and later restored it, saw it on the show field at Hershey about ten years ago. Bob

In the early design stage for the 55 Chevys, GM tried the 55 front sheetmetal on a 54 body.
I saw a photo of it some years back but can't seem to find it.
My memory of it is a bit dim but it may have been just a one side mockup, possibly in clay.
    Anyone else recall seeing this?

I believe that Zephyr ad was from 1936 or 1937, not 1942. Not sure how much of a price difference it would make but in 2016 dollars, under $20K would be a lot for your money.

    Roger that.
Probably the purest, most drama free thread on the HAMB.
