The rear end is basically done aside from the brakes, shock mounts, and paint. I put in some 3:73's and an auburn posi with all new bearings and seals. I've never setup gears or a diff before. It wasn't hard but damn, it was time consuming! I didn't take any pics of that because I was too busy cussin at it the whole time. If anyone is in the same boat this page helped me out alot. http://www.differentials.com/technical-help/installation-instructions

I also built the trans cooler mounts and upper shock mounts. I should have the shocks done tomorrow and I'll post a few pics of how I did it. If shes gonna make it to the roundup i really gotta bust ass and hope there's no big issues when it comes time to fire it up again.

I built the TV braket and modified the carb linkage for the cable. I think ive got the cable setup where it needs to be. We started the pressure tests at idle through each gear. The pressures seemed a bit low in drive gears and reverse. Around 120-150 range but were all consistent at idle and went up to 230 when we pulled the cable to wot position. Next is the drive test but I still needed to hook up the rear brakes and bleed the system. About halfway through bleeding the brakes one of the rear wheel cylinders blew and lost all pressure. Big setback as its going to be a pain in the ass to take everything back out to fix and start over! I cant help but wonder why would the cylinder blow up like that? I thought I had the drums adjusted correctly? They had the right amount of drag and everything was brand new. I damn sure can't afford that shit to happen when driving!

I may have missed it, but did you put in a dual master cylinder for the brakes?

Got the brakes all sorted out and had to cut out over half of the driveshaft tunnel to clear the driveshaft. It's lookin like we won't make the roundup but all that's left are floors and a test drive. She sits quite a bit lower now. Front part of the frame sits on the ground.

Oil drain plug is about 1/2 inch from the floor

A little work on the floors. I don't have a sheet metal break but so far so good.

Nice work on the fabrication of the floor, it will do the job just fine. Looks like you are going a lot with limited tools, like many of us need to do. Good example of what can be done.

I have a couple more straight eights on the way! The prettier one is a rebuilt 263ci with what appears to be a "home made" intake/exhaust topped with a 4 barrel edelbrock carb, electronic ignition, gm alternator, a bendensens adapter and a 700r4. Same setup I have now. The other is a disassembled parts motor. I'd like to pull the engine that's in the car now and freshen it up at some point. This would be a good replacement with that dual carb intake and a custom header. Best part is I bought both of these motors for less than I paid for the adapter and transmission I already have. Wish I woulda found this 6 months ago!

Since I'll have 3 of these maybe I can build a hot rod around one! This is pretty sweet...

Sorry it has been awhile since I updated. Currently I am finished with the floors and removable trans tunnel. I also made some removable covers for the upper four link bars. Since the interior is completely out I decided to replace the windshields, back side glass, and weather stripping on everything but the doors. Unfortunately with the windshields out I found some rust. There's nothing I can do about it right now so one day when I paint the car I will have it professionally repaired. Anyway, here's the pics!

Great progress! Would it be wise to make steel skid plates to protect the oil pan and gas tank?

I've thought about making something to protect the oil pan. When it's laid out on flat level ground the drain plug is about 3/4" from the ground with the front frame rails on the ground. You just have to be careful where you air it out when you park. The gas tank is pretty far from the ground so im not worried about it. I only drive at full ride height anyway.
