Hot Rods Is this a '35 Chevy?

this pile is for sale for $750, and I'm thinking to get it and do some learning.

how can you tell it is a standard?

 

fire wall, the std dent is deeper than the master. It could be a late 34 as they extended the rear gas tank cover. Also if the frame has an X member it's a 35, I can't tell from the pics.

 

I saw that gem too. Looks rough in the pictures but also seems like there's a lot to work with. Go shovel it out and drag it home!

 

I looked closer, looks like an x member in the frame, 35 std.

 

For that $, I could either take my kids to one Red Sox game on the T, or buy this pile. I'll probably take the pile.

 

35 Chevy. There is still some wood in those bodies, mainly the doors. You will learn to be a carpenter or a steel fabricator.

 

Lots of learning to be had with this purchase !

Yep, 35 Standard by deeper firewall indentation and x-frame centre member. 34s had parallel members and no x-member centre section. On 34-35s I believe the tail pan extended down, earlier models had a separate bolt on panel. My 35 Chevy (GMH) has a bolt on panel but that's the way they built them down here. Being a standard, instruments are in centre of dashboard and not in front of driver. There is no glove compartment.
It's difficult to see but the cowl vent should be Chevron shaped and open to the front. 34s were rectangular and opened to the rear.
It will have a 107" wheelbase and parallel leaf springs, front and rear. Masters had knee-action and were totally different front suspension with a 'K' centre member. Those cast front bumper brackets are the front attaching points for the springs

Yep, could look like this when t it done. Oh, and you can swap in a '34 Master dash if you want the gauges in front of you and a glove box. Direct bolt in swap.

Did you snag it? I once had a '36 Chevy 2 dr sedan offered to me for $400 it wasn't rusty, was complete except a grille and pass. door, it had all brand new cut glass....but I hated it it was so ugly I much prefer '34-5 and '37

 

Maybe I'm just becoming an old guy, but that seems like plenty of money for that pile. And, being from WI, most around here look like that, or worse. Or, maybe I'm selling my stuff WAY too cheap.

 

I only had to spend $50 to get the '35 Standard I owned, and it was a roller. But... that was more than a few years ago.
