That must have been across the Harbour from the hotel. Do you know what the wood structure was used for. In the early days there was a lot of industry in the harbour

  9. I'm 68 years old. I remember as a kid not wearing "blue jeans" until the 60's. People think I'm losing it, but if you study some of the shots of teens and young adults at the race tracks, as I was, they aren't wearing a lot of "jeans".
Who out there is lucky to remember that far back and give some insight to when the "blue jean" fad came along? Thanks, Mike

Mike, I'd say the late 1960's. A spin off of the Woodstock era.

DSCF6884.JPG It's snowing today, might as well do something useful and ID some photos I've enjoyed seeing on this thread. The Columbia Mark VII was built in Hartford, Ct. Photo is from Horseless Carriage Days by Hiram Percy Maxim, swi66 posted a photo way back #123280. Bob

I grew up in the fifties. Jeans were always around, I remember back then you had to roll the cuffs up on them, they pretty much came on length. Seems like when we were in our teens, the "dress code" only allowed them to be worn on Saturday or when working on the car. Things relaxed a lot with the hippie movement thank goodness, I would have never made it through the hat, suit and overcoat days. :)

Most likely an Apperson from around 1903, they had more spokes in their wheels than most cars from this era. Bob

I graduated in '69 and never wore jeans to school. They were work cloths meant for around the house and farm. Never wore T shirts to school either, usually button down collars. And no sneakers.

My brother and his "hood" buddies wore jeans in the early 60s, with the belt loops cut off, the cuffs rolled up high in small tight rolls. They were never washed, which disgusted my mother. Also wore white tshirts with their cigarettes rolled up in the sleeve. Sort of the James Dean look. Five years later, I started wearing them, faded with holes had become cool, at the start of the hippy era.

MVC-022S.JPG Graduated in 60. All we wore were Levis. Never washed if we could get away with it. Frye boots and nice pressed shirts-Pendleton shirts in the winter. Levis and Tshirts in the summer. Taken 1959 Chowchilla Ca at wife's great uncle's station-Levis and black boots. Note the "liberated" 56 Buick caps on the 54.

Jeans were already an item when Eddie Fisher did Dungaree Doll in '56.

I agree with olscrounger - the "jeans" we wore were Levi's, got my first pair when I was 10 years old, that was in 1950, wore them all through HS (as did all the other guys). I still wear 'em - even to church!!

  27. In my high school years, 1961 - 1964 we were strictly forbidden to wear jeans to high school. The school was very strict on this and I remember 2 occasions seeing fellow class mates sent home for the day because they violated the school rule.
Most always I wore corduroys or chinos as we called them and plaid shirts.
Weekends were for jeans and yes, rolled the cuffs up about 4 or 5 inches. My 1956 Bel Air, summer of 1964_1.jpg
    Yeah, a real fashion plate!
