Features Your top twenty 1949, '50 & '51 Mercurys

I like the '51 rear window on a 4 door sedan, and I like it in the Hirohata and on certain other chops, because the long, flat sides and pointy corners of the '51 window match the back door frames of the 4 door and the pointy, flat corners of the hardtopped roof so well.




But it doesn't always work as well on other builds. Certainly the '49-'50 window makes the chop easier, but I think asthetics also are a big part of using the earlier windows in a '51.

I have a '49 jailbar style window and roof section to use in my '51 and I'll use it even if I don't chop the car, it's my favorite style. The '51 window and surrounding sheetmetal will get saved for a different project.

 

my dad had this built in 1980. I would drive it around Dayton Ohio when I was a teenager, when he was in a good mood. ha. koolest kid in town. its somewhere in nc now.

 

I like to turn on Mercury Blues and cruise this thread!

 

If it only would have biasply-tires...

 

Thanks guys for posting all of the kool Mercury pictures. During our conference we spent most of the time naming Mercs that should be considered. looking at the pictures that have been posted we missed a few. I'd like to see more list of top twenty than just individual pictures of Mercs. I know that it is tough because I have finished mine, so lets see your list.

 

Here is the red and white Merc I commented on before. It has made my top 20. I`m trying to learn to post pic`s.

Hey, good job getting a picture posted Jim! I think when you scanned it, it saved as a pdf file instead of a jpeg, so while the file posted, it isn't showing in your post. I clicked it and it did download to my computer and I could see it fine.

 

Forget what year's I saw these at the GNRS &/or LA Roadster Show in Pomona. I think the red convertible belongs to Brockman Muffler.

 

Shamus - those look like 2013 vintage GNRS. Here is another shot of the black Merc. It was and probably still is owned by David Beans.

There are too many great custom Mercs out there to allow any with Hagen headlights into this post.

I'd think anyone with the knowledge of history and what it takes to properly customize a Mercury would realize the wrongness of those headlight kits.

 

I was thinking the same thing but was hard to just say it.
