Please don't laugh; I am serious. I would like to find a supplier of clear valve covers for pre lube and start up of a restoration 327 I am putting together. I know they have been available in the past. I just want to see what is going on without oil running down the sides of the heads. Then maybe use them for parts trays or planters. I have not been able to find a source. Perhaps that novelty has long since run it's course. Anyone have a suggestion/source? Thanks much.

Or you could just buy an oil pump primer.

    Oil pump primer: $20.00.
    Rocker arm clips: $14.00.

Saving $255 by doing things the traditional way: Priceless.

I have an oil pump primer. Past experience is that I always seem to manage to get oil outside the cylinder heads. I will check Clear Vue, thanks Austin. I may also check Ebay; thanks 2many. But what you folks are telling me regarding the cost of clear covers; screw that. I have several old and ugly 283 covers that I can clean up and cut the tops off as HRP suggested. And the clips gimpy mentioned. I really appreciate the response. I love the HAMB.

Get a set of tall ones and open up the tops , maybe a bit more room and no clips needed . I always prime through oil sending port , then use oil pump to be sure all is well

How about cutting a hole in an old junk set and gluing a piece of Plexiglas over the hole?

  13. If you are cutting out the middle of the valve covers, its also handy for adjusting the lifters while it's running.

We ran a set of clear valve covers on a Gasser back in the 70's. Came in handy for inspecting for broken valve springs between rounds. Also once found water in the oil that we would have missed had it not been for clear valve covers.

Either plug will work oil galley or sending unit , I prefer oil sending unit , because it can be used with valve covers on . Sorry I should not be making comments on GM engines , just not my cup of soup . It that is all that is remaining I'm out of the Hot Rod games !

It's ok. It would be fun to watch you put a fitting in with the head in place. ;) :D

A couple years ago I bought a set of SBC ones for $20 and sold them for $250. I always tell this story when people laugh at me for wanting to be as close to the front of the line as possible at swap meets and estate sales. For that much markup,I couldnt keep them.

Hey 19: I do not have a leak issue; sorry I may have mislead some of you. I have had experience in the past with an oily mess when pre-lubing a new motor. The reason I wanted clear covers is so that I can make sure I am getting lubrication on the top end without oil dripping down the side of the heads. Thanks for offering help.
