65 F-100 ....... If I were to install a straight axle in the same place and same dimensions as the twin I beams would my draq link, drag link to pitman arm and steering box still work ok ?? ................ here is what the factory set up looks like http://www.fordification.com/tech/images/mydiscbrakes06.jpg Also, with a straight axle instead of twin I beams could I substitute coils over in place of the springs and shocks ?? http://www.hotrodders.com/tw/images/e/e2/3-1_Ford_I-beams.jpg Here is a 57 Ford Gasser with coil overs http://customrodder.forumactif.org/t218p45-1950-s-ford-gasser Hope this is ok to post here Ricky.
Hey 55willys An early ford axle or perhaps a tube axle Is there another section I could put this in or does this not belong on the HAMB ?? EDIT: Another angle http://www.mustangsteve.com/twinbeamremoved.jpg The passenger tie rod connects to the pitman arm The driver tie rod connects to the passenger tie rod Perhaps a one piece draglink to both spindles Then a link to the above from the pitman arm ?? Regards and thanks ! Ricky.
You just missed the factory straight axel by a year. Why dont you just use a older frame? should be one in a few salvage yards down your way .
I was going to weld the twin I-beams together to make a single axle while keeping the disc brakes, sounds spooky but the local machinist said it would work. The later Twin I beams are welded up from formed steel.
