I'm in the process of building my 53F100 and have been using flat black rattle cans as I like the look. Has anyone had found a flat or hot rod black they would recommend? Also would love to hear any suggestions or comments. FullSizeRender 4.jpg IMG_1702.JPG FullSizeRender 4.jpg

  2. Make sure whatever you use works over the paint on now.

Used valspar semigloss red and black satin on my 55' stude. Was real easy to use. You could lay it on pretty heavy and it didn't run. 22 cans worth if I remember correctly. 455819-1364130577-263169d0a084842d3bcc4ee82b520d49.jpg

I've used a BASF product called Limco 3 that goes for about $16.00/QT. Its a base coat that wasn't cleared. It has held up really well and cleans up real good using spray detailer.

Hi. Whatever you are using looks fine. The paint on my 46 Chevy was done by previous owner in 1990 but is holding up well as he kept it in a closed garage under a car cover when not driving it. I am now doing a bit of touch up in a few places & I went down to local auto paint supply with the old paint # previous owner supplied me and got a couple of rattle cans mixed up and it is absolutely amazing how it is blending in and practically impossible to tell the difference. When I get all finished & the car polished up I don't thing anyone will be able to tell the difference.
    Good luck, Jimmie

I've been using Rattle cans from Home Depot with a normal spray nozzle. I have sanded and prepped before applying.

I hate rattle cans. Maybe see if you can buy the same paint in a gallon can and use a HF $14 paint gun to spray it?
