Hot Rods Farm find 1957 Dodge Sweptside

Pretty excited, just paid and got the title, truck is still on the property, my new 1957 Dodge Sweptside. Motor is not original, there's a ford inline 6 in there. It was a push button trans, and I think a 315.

 

Nice find.

 

Looks pretty straight and solid. What kind of trans is mated up to the Ford 6? If that 6 is a 300, I'd keep it. The Ford 300 six is a torque monster.

 

Not sure, its an automatic but I was told it was bad. The owner drove it here from California, not sure how long ago but its been sitting here for maybe 10 years.

 

You need to find the guy that lost out on the bid at Mecum at 175.000.00. Granted it was ultra restored, but at least two people were ready to pay the price. D

Wow!!!! An incredibly rare find! Just the trim is worth a fortune, definatly worth putting the proper engine etc. back in it. I can't describe how jealous I am.......where did that bottle of whiskey go now.....then to cry myself to sleep!

Oh, no, you di-unt! Wow, great score. I'm with Bruce, 57 Fargo and the rest of these guys. I'd look for an appropriate V-8 and do what you can to get it back to original. Rare and slick as a snotty doorknob. Keep us posted on progress.

 

Yep... I'd look for an original hemi and trans that goes with the push button.

Great truck. Looks real solid in the pics, I know these trucks where prone for rust where the "quarters" where modified to bolt on. Obviously not sitting on a farm in Wisconsin too long! I would look for a Hemi for it as well.

I think your lucky you got it, The guy you got it from obviously didn't see the one sell at B-J! Great condition and a rare truck, you did good!

 

Great find sir. The last time I saw one of those things was at a swap meet here in Washington state, it was almost the same condition (sans seats) for $7500. Good luck with the build, can't wait to see the finished product.

Nice, thanks for the replies. Looking it up and its more rare than I thought, supposedly 75 left of the 1957's. If thats the case, I will have to find a 315 V8 for it, keep it stock. I want it home now, but its frozen in the ground, will have to wait till it defrosts some. Its pretty solid too. At least the cold keeps the mice smell down.

This is why I don't own any "classics". I'd drop it on the ground, put a 518 2nd gen hemi in it with big tires etc etc. It'd be worthless and all the mopar purists would hate my ass!

The one my son almost got bought 20 years ago didn't look anywhere near that nice! He had a solid price the guy told him he would honor for a week. My son (15 at the time) sold off his go-kart, and a bunch of his other possessions to buy the truck, but 3 days after the guy gave him the price guarantee, the ass raised the price almost double! My son was so pissed off he told the guy to kiss his butt, took the money and bought something else.

Chase down the correct motor, it will be worth the effort.

Rocky, the Sweptsides were basic pickups with 57 Dodge 2 door wagon rear quarters factory welded on the box. Wouldn't be hard to graft long rear quarters on any old truck box and have a cool custom, save the special low production trucks in stock like form to preserve history. Gene
