It's a Y-block and since it's a Merc, probably a 312.

 

I like Tom Mix's horse called "CEMENT"-----They went together---"Tom Mix n' Cement"

 

I thought Y blocks had that weird crosswise intake pattern

You're right about the intake pattern on Y-blocks. The intake ports would be vertically stacked if it was a Y-block.
You can tell by the side by side injector stacks that the intake ports are side by side and not stacked. Looks like a 430.

 

Its a Lincoln Y block and most likely a 57 368.
