Did the earliest Chevy six 235 use the 216 valve cover bolt configuration?..or were 216 heads used on the new 235 engines???I have what I be I've to be a 235 , i bought from a old fellow who pulled it from his 1946 truck he purchased brand new...
There is a non pressure 235 used in large trucks pre 54 (I think). Non-pressure ("spray-oiled") motors have a small, three bolt plate on the driver side of the engine block. This is the "oil-circulator" cover plate. From another thread on the H.A.M.B. @'Mo is the man for this question.
Yes, the 216's and early 235 valve cover is held down by two studs, along with a tall side cover on early 235 truck. Check the casting number list ( far left side column) for your block application. http://www.inliners.org/
to answer your valve cover question, yes the early 235s used the stud mounted rocker cover. same part number for all of them 37-53. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/parts/1929_54/105.HTM
They look the same. Block is taller. Heads interchange. 10mm plugs in the head. Dipper motor. Same engine with more cubes. The oil regulator is specific to certain years. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
