Hot Rods PORKSHOP'S WILLYS PU.. build thread.. (x sedan)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Kiwi Kev, Aug 15, 2016.

  1. Made a little more progress....
Braces for the front end hinge/mount. This took most of the flex out.

Expanded metal will get 'glassed in.

Welded up the old fender holes and made some lower bed panels .

Drilled grill holes in the fiberglass front end. Copied my coupe opening in cardboard then laid it out and taped the card board in place and drilled pilot holes, then hole saws. There are 3 different size holes. Painted silver will look good, like on the Gas Junkie truck.

  4. Wow! I had driven past that orange and purple car numerous times and thought to myself that it needed to be rescued or transformed and you have done it! Excellent work!

Fantastic build. Master Craftsman at work!

  11. Made some more progress, here is what I did to finish the drip rail at the door corner. 37's don't really have a normal drip rail.

  12. I did some other work on the back of the cab that doesn't really show, I also put an inner brace across the inner cab behind the seats.

John wanted a Lakewood style roll bar so I built this, not an exact copy but similar. Should be good for a blast down the Eagle Field 1/8 mile and the front bar can be removed for street driving with passengers.

It bolts in with 14 7/16 grade 8 bolts. I made a cardboard pattern and bent the tube (1 3/4 x .120 wall) to match.

  17. Bruce, probably won't be racing my coupe again. I plan to put it up for sale in a couple of months so I can do some work on my house and pay off a few bills.

I am almost done with my part of the PU build, just need to put the stake pockets back on the bed and build a simple tailgate.

Just finished rereading all of the threads on the Nasty Habit Willys the other day, and then I see that you are wanting to sell it. It led me to have a dream that I bought it, but alas I am sure that will always be only a dream.

Just found this thread, great that you're saving another pile of parts. Awesome work as usual Kev.

  25. Trans mount, angles will weld to the bottom of the frame and center can unbolt and drop out to remove gear box.

Had a lot of fun drilling out spot welds and getting bed posts ready to weld back on to the shortened bed sides. Next job is to build a simple tailgate to fill the hole.
