Put the 4.11's in the 57 Olds rear today and measured up and ordered the 35 spine rear axles. Looking forward to getting this in the Corvette this spring . May the beatings commence.
Good to hear. Jim ( Vetrod62) has one in his too and they have to be bullet proof to stand up to the abuse you guys give them.
Jim? Vetrod? is that some type of made up name? a ghost from the past? that's right he is the one with the show bar in his corvette that is for looks only. I have a back brace on mine similar to a 9 inch ford setup, I have built a couple of spare center sections with different gear sets, it would have been nice if GM would have stayed with that axle, that dropout center is great compared to a GM 12 bolt. jp
Good, someone needs to increase his blood pressure and get him fully enraged, I am couple thousand miles away so I will talk big and act sassy. jp
Good choice, Just be careful when the road is wet. Pictures below were what was left after a hard launch. Dana rear, car moved 4 inches Eaton rear, car moved 6 inches. yea, a lot of broken expensive parts and an early day of racing cut short.
jp, a little guilt on the earlier quote?? I am still on the right side of the turf. Home sick with the flu. Pretty sick of two years of 80+ hours work so I can retire and enjoy the car stuff. Six weeks ago I hit the limit of all work and no play. And decided F it, the work will take as long as it takes and do some fun stuff next season. The 436 sbc 61 vette is done and will be the first effort in the Spring. My red car, 532" Bow-tie blown and injected 62 is back in the garage to have the fuel pump and injectors replaced. SHOW BAR, now that is a really low blow. Seeing as many things on your car are copied from my cars. Just busting, If I ever get retired, I will tow out Oregon to run with you. Jim
Baron, I agree with jp, A back brace would be wise to install. The stock GM housing are only formed sheet metal. A Back brace for a Ford 9" easily fits with minor grinding and welding. Jim
Hi Jim. Hope your feeling better soon. I had it for ten days, right through the holidays. Even went home from work early one day (and I never do that). I'll give the back brace some thought. Kind of gets away from the nostalgia look I am after, and this car will see the track only three or 4 times a year, but will see.( and I don't have the power you guys have ). One thing that could be an issue is how close it comes to the spare tire well, not that it would be a bid deal to flatten out front side. I'll check it out. Thanks.
Jim, If I am going to copy I might as well copy from the best, that's great to hear about you slowing down with work, I know you were pushing very hard and you need to balance things out, I look forward to seeing you back out on the track and the entertaining videos that will be provided, it will be a fun day when we meet up in person to do some racing and of course the mandatory busting. Your humble friend. jp
Finally installing the 57 Olds rear in the car. Need longer U-bolts (which I could not get tonight) so I'll order them in the morning. Once I get those I'll get everything bolted in, measure for the new driveshaft, make new brake lines for the rear , bleed the brakes and should be good to go.
Ditto on the shop / I need to get mine in order, after I finish building a deck, and re-model the bathrooms...ugh! The Vette is (still) looking great!
Baron looking good, as always. Enjoy the 1/4 mile times this summer. Changing out the 55 year old axles on my black 62 tomorrow to a new set that I had Moser fabricate. Not near the power that you and Jim and JP are running as it is just my street car. My next project (if I can ever get back on it) will use one of the Pontiac rears that Jim sold me. Keep up the good work.
