Technical Model A Tudor Sedan to a Sedan Delivery Conversion?

When cutting the door we looked at many pictures on the internet as we could find. Then after much discussion, we measured and winged it. Air cutting wheel, and a bosch industrial jig saw, and a good tape job.

 

After making cardboard templates what did you use to make the framing for the body and door?

 

My fabricator friend (Davey Scheimann Jr.) had some metal bent up just for the job. I can't remember the gauge thickness. In all I think we used about three different thicknesses. Then we spent lots of time making carboard templates, and we gave the jig saw a good workout. The inner and outer jams are pretty substantial. I'll check on the metal gauges. Gary

 

What did you put behind the hinge area for extra support?

Bringing this back up to the top. If you're still looking to do this, I have a new unused Gibbons kit and a decent body to work with.

 

All Model A's share a common wheel base Coupe's, Two Door Sedans and Four Door Sedans all have the same 103 1/2" wheelbase. I would be greatly surprised if Ford made the Sedan Delivery any different.

I could not agree more with gimpy about the apology. No Model A guy would ever tire of looking at those pictures ever.

 

The wheel base is the same as stated but the sighn panel on a delivery is longer than the window opening on a tudor sedan body.That maybe why they look longer,It's in the upper 1/4 panel.I did one 30 years ago and used tudor sedan lower 1/4's and real sedan delivery uppers .everything fit and went together without a problem.1928's were bolted together ant the belt line and 29's were spot welded.Ford made ruffly 2,000 of the 28/29 sedan delivery's.

 

Man the over lap is a nice detail but dang that door sill sold me what a cool car!

 

A guy here has a sedan with back door cut out. Then they sliced it horizontally. Both halves of the door open like a station wagon
