Its a little Frankensteinish, but the "mini tubs" are done.

A lot of work to gain 3" more in tire.

  4. Great job! It's a lot more work when the trunk floor is rusted out like mine was. Tough '55 you have there.

    On the to do list:
    - re-wire back half
    - fuel cell, line, and vent
    - relocate battery
    - battery disconnect
    - brakes
    - driveshaft w/ 1350 joints
    - driveshaft loop
    - cage

Can't believe it's been 7 years since I started this thread. Time flys when you're raising kiddos!

I'm answering an old question but somebody else might need this info...

I had a pair of 15 x 7 wheels they had a pair of 275/60R15 tires mounted on them. They didn't hook at all.. I could see the center of the tread slightly bowing out. The BF Goodrich 275/60R15 tires had a tread width of 9". When I switched to 15 x 9 steel wheels using the same tire. The tread was perfectly even all the way across. This pair of 15 x 9 steel wheels with 275/60R15 tires hooked like never before.. Same tire wider wheel makes such a big difference since the tread is flat all the way across..

I'm gonna close this decade long thread out with a few "finished" pics of the car. Been doing ALOT of racing this summer, mostly running D/Gas and Brackets. Car run's consistent 10.60's (with a throttle stop) @ 135MPH with a 1.40 60'. Best time is 10.40 and I'm confident I could get her into the 9's with a little weight reduction and some more power, but I'm happy with where its at now. Also stepped up and bought an enclosed trailer, the flatbed thing got old real quick with the amount of track time I've been putting in. Its still registered and driven on the street just not to the track, Have around 200 passes on the car now and its a ton of fun; getting ready to hand it off to my son. Next major change is 40spline third and E85 conversion (116 fuel is just insane), FYI - this bitch still weighs in at 3800 lbs! Wheelie 1.jpg 1.jpg 2.jpg 4.jpg 5.jpg 3.jpg
