Very sad news!! A few years ago I met Pete at the Detroit Autorama and we chatted in detail about the restoration of the Doane Spencer roadster when it was at his shop. I will always remember that long talk I had with him. 2017 isn't getting off to a very good start. Sincere condolences to family and friends!!

I was 20 years old and it was the mid 70's. I was setting up the rear end in my '40 standard. I had an issue that I needed help with. Way before the internet, I called Pete and Jakes. The girl on the phone put me on hold. This is Pete Chapouris what can I help you with? He spent an hour on the phone with me talking about ride height, tires and how his opinion was that I try to stay with Ford's original geometry for my '40. He never once tried to sell me anything. But he said something to me that day, that would stay with me for the rest of my life. He said "You should only have to buy a quality part once". Over the years, I got to talk with him in person a couple times. And I would always remind him of what he told me. And the fact that he took precious time out of his busy schedule of running a business, to talk to a kid with dreams. I have never forgotten that. Hearing of his passing was such a shock to me. I am saddened deeply. My prayers are with his family and all who had the opportunity to know him. He was a true pioneer.

IMG_5011.JPG I've always loved this photo of him and the chassis of the kid. I actualy have it hanging in my shop space as I always figure that's what a hot rodders garage was supposed to look like.

    What's a bummer :/

Great pic. I was at the GasUp and Robby took that same Sprinter to Buelton so Blair could be inducted.

    So sad!

So you are saying, this guy what not only a legend, class act but also a HAMBer?
Bummer, I would have love to tell him how much I liked "The Farther day track roadster"!
That car is great, and the story is epic!

The only exception so far to
The rule of "4 link in front looks like sh1t".

Godspeed, and hope there is an afterlife where I get to meet guys like Pete and Smokey!

To huge degree, the father of the hot rodding revival. What others just talked about, he, and his partners did.

    RIP

Very sad news. We met Pete and Jimmy at the Detroit Autorama in 2013. He was very sincere with our son. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. RIP Pete.
