Ok so, I find this little 4-71 today and I have never seen a duel side draft adapter like this before. And also the drive is odd too! What do you guys think? I know it's just junk and good thing I only paid scrap prices for it.
Looks like the carb adaptor is for dual 2" SU carbs, might be a british application? Too cool! good for low hood clearance, like the blown flathead I'm building for my son, He wants a hood top. oops.
I don't know of any side draft carb w/a 4 bolt pattern. Poss. single throat Hillborns? If it was'nt for the lack bracket mounts and or a popoff valve I'd think it was to mount a scalloped case 4-71 on a VW or Corvair from the bottom, especially w/the 2 extra bolt holes.
The HD8 SU is 2 inches and 4 bolts. Some Jaguar fiend could give you the dimensions. May have come on the earliest Range Rovers or Rover TC3500, as well.
Ok I took a few more Pics to help solve this mystery. The carb mounting pad measures 2 5/16-2 3/8 center to center and 3 5/16-3 3/8 on the diagonal center to center. And the snout measures 7 7/16 face of case to end of pulley.
Here's the HD8 SU's that H.B. mentioned. http://www.xks.com/jaguar/catalog/pdf/JaguarCatVol15_154_176.pdf
Also I believe the snout and tri plate were originally one piece because a friend of mine has one just like it minus the shaft and pulley but I don't know who made it.
Anyone else have any idea? Pepco-Beatty-Navarro(beatty)-Cragar some are simular but the snout is not the same. Any others I'm missing?
Right from the grave. Look at the last post date. New people here now, compared to then. Still have it, and thought why not.
Roothawg glad to see you still on the board... Cant find a damn intake. ok I can, just don't want to pay the price.
found these on google, here's what the photo caption said: "The carburettors are H8 sand cast 2 inch SU's, not the HD8 carbs as used on a Mk 2 and much dearer:"
