It's all good Jim. Just feeling a little frisky after an extra cup of coffee, so I thought I'd yank your chain a little. Happy New Year to you, buddy.

I believe I saw a shot of these being marketed at SEMA show. Trick-Flow were doing them in aluminum IIRC.

I did some research to track down the original manufacturer, now dissolved, assets sold off, found some the legal proceedings on-line. I agree it would be great to find the tooling or build new to get these going.

how about some dist. caps and rotors for the early Mallory dual point dist with the 2 piece top. they are still listed in the napa catalog, but are no longer in production. I waited for 3 weeks last summer to try and find out when the would produce some, the answer finally was they don't know if they will produce them again. I did locate few rotors on the east coast, at a couple of napa stores, but no caps. I like the looks of the mallory, but I am probably going to replace it with something else.

Aluminum intakes for early Caddy V8's, 331, 365, and 390's. A dual quad would be nice. A supercharger intake would be GREAT!!!

id like a wide 5 adaptor that adds some backspacing somehow.
when flat adaptor is used on normal hubs it pushes tire out too far. and cause the kingpin pivot axis to not be in the tire contact patch, causes harder turning tire scrub when sitting still/slow driving etc....

  9. There's no way to make up all the change on an adapter.

    E image.jpeg

First you have a flat backing plate.
The wide 5 wheels worked with a very deep recess backing plate.
You can see the shoes are far behind the spindle mounting surface.
Net change is about 3 inches per side
    image.jpg
Then the brake drum it self was less than half the thickness of that Buick drum.
Net change is almost 2" per side.
That's 5" per side or close to 10 " increased track width total.

To get an idea - Get an old wide five wheel and knock the center out.
Place the wheel where you get the contact patch and scrub radius where you want it. Bolt the center on and calculate what's needed to join them back up. It will look like an offset that resembles a front wheel in a dually pick up

The wide five front hubs should be used and the center of the Buick drums will be cut out after it is centered and the 10-1/4" bolt pattern is drilled in them. Also you will probably need to get the Lincoln style backing plates to get the brake in the right position. There is no other right way to get there from here with the setup you have.

I am also working on a wide five disc brake conversion that uses a stock hub and eventually want to cast my own wide five front hubs that will take rotors directly. I would like to see someone cast Buick drums that have the liner centered.

a backing plate like that could help with a correct hub/drum setup for sure. maybe something like this, but using a front hub?

    or this

I know nothing is going to make it all up, but an inch here or there would help..

i'm using petty narrow I beam and some unique "posie" springs to keep my overall width under control. it's still and inch or 2 wider than the rear.

That first picture is a front hub and for racing they would mount a rear 3/4 ton spindle to the front and use the rear hub and drum on the front.

How about reasonably priced finned aluminum valve covers for the 472/500 Cadillac engines.

What do you consider as reasonably priced? Under $400 a pair?

Under $400 would be good, under $300 would be gooder. Right now there is only one company making custom valve covers for the 472/500 Cadillac engines and they are not the best looking covers. Maybe even an adapter that would allow the use of the older style Cadillac covers to the 472/500, someone used to make them but no more.

That is what I saw and the price was nearly $600. How much demand do you think that there is? Would they need to accept the stock pcv and fill holes or just be finned the entire length and leave it to the customer to finish how they want?

I think they would be good sellers, almost every rod run or show I go to, I see a couple 472/500 Cadillac engined cars. You could go on the Cadillac forum and ask. (http://www.cadillacpower.com/forum/index.php)
I think there was a company a couple years ago that made adapters to install Ford 460 covers on the 472/500 engines.
Another thing that Cadillac guys might be interested in is an adapter to install 460 Ford intakes on the 472/500 Cadillac engines. I think that MTS (500cid.com) made those but they're no longer made.

Are they all by themselves for width? I think that you have the early small nail heads and then the later big ones but I think 364 was all by itself because of the deck height of the block. I have a 364 I can check against my 401.

Hollywood flippers for 16" ford and other make wheels. Not the cheap 15" full caps they sell now. And the originals are just too damned expensive for the rusty beat up junk they are.

An aluminum repop '54 New Yorker 331 Hemi 4 barrel intake would sell really well I think, too. Wouldn't even have to be real fancy engineering, just an aluminum repop of the original, maybe with a bigger carb pattern. It's the only 4 barrel intake for the 331 with a water neck on it.

If you look closely at model A bodies you will see that the structure of the roadster and coupe are very different. This would be a huge undertaking.

  30. I have one of those manifolds to loan for a pattern.
The '54 heads are supposed to be the same casting, port configuration and flow numbers as the coveted '55 "555" heads. The '55 heads had water outlet ports and the '54 doesn't.
