    Fellow HAMBers:
I just launched a history website, 99wspeedshop.com, with magazine covers for all major hot rod and custom car magazine from 1945 to 1975. For each magazine, I have a short description of the magazine's history, then images of all known covers. I've attempted to reconcile volume and serial numbers for each title to ensure the images are as complete as possible. The site is mostly done, although I'm still adding Rod & Custom images and am missing a few covers for others.
    ENJOY!!

  2. FANTASTIC!! Thanks so much for doing that.

I found the last 3 issues when I was 14, took almost 50 years to find the 1st issue.

Thank you for putting this site together.
At age 73, many of these covers brought back memories of more than a few models and a couple of real cars that were inspired by these magazines in the 50's and 60's.

That's cool. I see you're still working on the R&C section which should have my all-time favorite cover of a 57 Nomad!

Do you have a list of covers you DON'T have. Many of us hambers have old magazines and may be able to help. I have 30+/- copies myself from early to late 50's.
Can't wait to check it out. (Updated ) wow. What a great site. I will check my magazines as I'm looking through the site.

Thank you for the hard work that was put into this.
    Amazing job

@deuce666 the link to your Email isn't working so here is a scan of "Hot Rods Super stocks and Customs" from May 1960 for your list. Sorry for the poor quality.:(

Mike & others - thanks for the offer to provide more images; that would be GREAT! Here's what I need for what's currently on the site or in the works for future updates:
    1. Car Speed & Style – May 1958
    2. Hi-Performance Cars - Jan ’66 and Nov '67
    3. Popular Customs – Fall ’63, Spring ’64, Fall ’64 and Winter ‘65
    4. Speed Mechanics – issue #66 published sometime in 1964 between March & Oct
    5. Street & Strip – May ‘66
    6. Motorsport – Jan through June 1955; May, Oct & Nov from 1956; and Apr ‘51
    7. Customs Illustrated - Apr ’64 vol 7 no 2 & May ’65 vol 8 no 1
    8. Street Rod – Nov ‘71

302GMC - I read about Northwest Rods, but I'd never actually seen one until you posted these pictures. So that part is fantastic!!
Can I assume there were only four issues published? And are these all volume 1 and series 1 through 4 (1957 and 1958 only?).
Any history you have would be much appreciated. Even a scan of the editor's comments from the very first issue often provides important clues.
    Thanks much -
    Richard

I have a full set of Street Rod and it was introduced by Bruce Miller with the Oct. '71 issue and followed by the Dec. '71 issue that was numbered Vol. 1, No.2. The Jan. '72 issue began Vol. 2. Here is a scan from Dec. '71 Scan0013.jpg

Richard, there's just these 4 issues. Al Drake interviewed editor/startup man Peter Sukalac, who did all the work. He did a great job almost alone, while others involved were less than gentlemen, so he split ...
While on the Portland/PNW magazine subject, thanks to fordors I know which of the '71 -'72 Street Rod mags I'm missing. I can use Dec '71 & Jan '72 ...
One of the early '72 issues has a tiny picture of my '50 Olds wagon in it. The topic was late model cars in the hobby.

A big THANK YOU to those who sent images of missing covers.

Cars & Clubs was published in Minneapolis MN from May 1958 until July 1959
    There were 14 issues total.
I will try to remember to send you pics of those covers ( I have all 14, but 1 is missing a cover) if you would like.

I'd be pleased to put Cars and Clubs issues on the website if you're still willing to send the images to me.

  29. I had a stack of them for sale for a while. I think I sold them at the last swap meet I was at. I'd have to check.

Mag was around in the mid 60s. Was Hotrod Parts Illustrated, then seemed to become Drag Parts Illustrated with "Hotrod Parts Illustrated" in smaller print below for 67 and 68. Then ???
