History "Mature" H.A.M.B. Folks

still kicken....... just not as high

 

I began this thread some 12 pages ago and believe it all boils down to this.
Regardless of age, if we have the ability to be here on the H.A.M.B. site, then we're more fortunate than many other folks, in this world of ours.
I have been known to moan and groan about health issues, mobility issues, hearing issues, memory issues, etc.
For me, I only need to see one of our vets coming home to Dover, in their flag draped casket, my issues immediately vanish .... or so it seems.
If we're 70 and feel 80, or 80 and feel 70, we're able to be here to discuss it, and that beats our other option.
Guess I think these thoughts even more, especially at this time of year.

The old saying your only as old as you feel is a definite truism.

 

Turned 69 recently and spent 4 days with another HAMBER(no wives)Went to H & H flatheads,Mooneyes,SOCAL where Pete Chapouris spent a whole hour giving two Rodders the "grand tour". What a wonderful,funny guy our host Pete Chapouris was.Finished up at Bobby Waldens speed shop.On Sat went to ElMirage dry lakes.Cost was $7.50 per person to attend a fantastic day of dry lakes racing.Weather was perfect; high 60's to mid 70's all day.Finished up on Sunday with nice seats at 52nd World Finals at Pomona.A great time was had by all.

 

Will turn 70 in March (I hope) been through 2 wars; Vietnam and 1968 Chicago; so I feel lucky to
be doing so well. Go to the garage every day for my workout. Current project is a bucket with a
425 Olds for scoot.

Not old or mature, but surely got more experience...I'm turning 60 in 2017

 

63 in Feb....1 /12 years till I pull the plug on work (started UPS in 1973 ) and collect SS & pension (hopefully)

 

66 and still working on the old cars, just a little slower.

 

Grew up 5 blocks from the Reading Fairgrounds in the 50's. Loved the flat heads, Bobby Abel was my favorite, that's why I'm currently building a 32 5 wlndow. Helped Curt Weller, in the 70's build his first modified coupe. From there I got into drags (keep the car a little nicer during use). Met Russ Smith around 2000, came in my shop and told some amazing stories. Miss the old days!

 

76 and still moving under my own power!

 

Will be 72 in Feb. still building cars .

 

Will be 71 in Feb. Still building two cars, an A and a 64 custom. Too cold now to do much (arthritis acts up a lot) so we are off to sunny FL for the month of Jan to catch up with friends and their projects then back home for the maple season in Feb. After that back to the projects.........

 

70 here and still working and building. planning a2 day trip to cal. in the 41

At 69-11/12th, I know exactly what you're, ...tawkin' ' bout.

...this response is my opinion, not an argument. Just my opinion.

 

The road to maturity is long, with many detours, but always interesting.

 

I'm 55 and my father is 83 and he still frequently puts in 10 or 12 hour days in the shop working on projects. He sidelined a 57 chevy pickup he was building to join me in a roadster build in October and now we are 10 weeks in, we've made a lot of progress. We are stalled waiting for a axle to be dropped or we would be a lot further.

71 in four days ........I'm aged like fine wine

 

But don't leave stains on the carpet, like fine wine !

 

If you leave fine wine in the bottle too long you get vinegar.

 

You know, when I was younger and stronger and more confident I never gave a lot of thought about hearing a siren other than to get out of the way. More and more whenever I hear one I say "someone is having a lot worse day than I am having".
When I'm having the leg problems that I've been having lately and feeling sorry for myself, almost without fail, I can look around and spot someone struggling to walk into the grocery store, etc. If a person is honest with themselves (and paying attention), they will see plenty of examples proving things could be worse.

72, probably would have been younger, but I was really sick for over 4- 5 years.

BUT HAVEN'T I FILLED OUT NICELY?

older I get: I tend to look at women more than I used to, I now can find beauty in almost all women.

 

72 years young, artificial heart valve, defib/Pacemaker implanted, several stents, Bypass surgery. Still interested in Hot Rods.
