Yep, that's my daily. I'm sanding the rust & old paint off. Clark & I will be chopping and sectioning it this year. When we do that I will post a thread on it. I can't wait!
Thanks, glad you like what we are doing...I'm sure it's not for everyone!

An interesting choice to add running boards. Do you just prefer that look?

We prefer kustomizing whatever we can to make the truck look it's best! ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1464535215.876199.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1464535264.709731.jpg

Nice Stude! I just found this thread.
This is my step dads 55. He chopped it 4" and sectioned it another 4". I think he also shortened the bed about 6". I wish I had more pictures of it. He now lives in New Zealand. He is 5'-6" and the roof comes up to his arm pit.
These are some fine looking trucks.

I love the rear treatment and tailights, not sold on the running boards as the lack of boards is part of what set these trucks apart from the rest of the 50's trucks

That truck looks Great. I cant wait to see the work on your Poncho, always lurking for ideas. Always enjoy what you post. Has helped me while working on my 48 chev coupe. 2.5 inch shop extended cat walk, 48 poncho tail lights, 54 chev dash.

  10. Very nice work. I really like where you took this truck. I know first hand what it takes to do that kind of a job...I did this one... IMG_3318.JPG IMG_2741.JPG IMG_2742.JPG

    Thanks!
    Thanks, right on!
Thanks, Yeah custom running boards aren't for everyone. We like that by extending the fenders and making running boards it makes the truck look less "pro-streetish".
Thanks! Yep they are a lot of work & there are so many different directions you can take them in.

Does anybody make a kit for eliminating the wind wing windows on a Stude truck or do you guys just adapt it?

I like the addition of the running boards, I agree it takes away the prostreet look that seems so common in these. Love the taillights!

I love the running boards!!! They tie the bottom of the truck up and make the fenders look right. The taillights look good too and they tie in the bead rolls with the back with the little lines! Well done!!!

I don't usually like that vintage of Stude but I do like yours! The boards are a nice addition!

Those taillights just worked out perfect with the symmetry of the factory ribs in the front of the bed and the tailgate. When Clark and Tracy made the filler panels for the rear of the bed and bead rolled the 3 ribs to match the tailgate and bed I was blown away. The running boards also have 3 ribs which match the 3 ribs in the foot well when you open the door. I am just happy to see people noticing the level of work Clark and Tracy put out. The look of the truck might not suit every taste but the craftsmanship stands alone and is undeniably top shelf. Thanks to all for looking.

didn't they noticed the three ribs at the bottom of the tail gate, and the three horizontals on the tail light lenses?

Squeezing ribs in to line up with the bottom ones on the tailgate would look off and detract visually not add. I liked it as it is done and since its my truck I win.... The best part is the people that don't like the truck can simply not look at it. You will never be happy building something to suite everyone at the end of the day I only have to make me happy.

Just found this thread. Incredible work!

The chop looks factory. So many times when a round cab is chopped they look "squished" to me. The proportions came out perfect.

I'll go against the grain on the running boards. Visually, I never realized how these trucks needed them, just something wasn't right with the bottom of them. I like them a lot.

Thanks Devin. Clark and Tracey really did an excellent job on the roof and we all didn't want the "squished" look.
I love that Henry J. There was a couple out at the mooneyes xmas show yesterday.

  24. I love the truck and would not change a thing except maybe put my name on pink slip ! LOL , Blue

Thats the truth there! I love the choices y'all made with it and wouldnt change a thing. The Astros and narrow whites just look right as well. Do you have any paint ideas for it yet?

Great looking Stude. Excellant metal work as well. I may have missed it earlier in the postings, but did you use the original frame or was it swapped with something else. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for the kind words. I have not really thought about paint yet as there is still metal work to be done. Clark and Tracy will be doing some cool stuff to the front end and making a new dash to hold the Edsel gauge cluster I picked for it. I will probably just shoot it primer for Santa Maria this year as oiling the bare metal gets old quick.

Thank you for the praise. Clark and Tracy really do outstanding metal work and are quite busy now with a few very cool coupe projects. To answer your question, the frame has a nova clip in the front which was already on it when I bought the truck but the rest of the frame is stock with a custom notch welded in and all the air ride brackets. It is a shame to keep all the great air ride and exhaust work Clark did covered up. The other cool thing is I still have a lot of bed depth which you don't really see very often on a bagged truck.

Its one ugly ass truck. But I totally love what you've done to it! The running boards really do tie it together nicely. Digging where its going. Keep up the killer work
