Looking really nice. My short wheel base build has been a challenge to say the least. Every thing affects the next. Keep up the great job.

Got one of my rear bars built today. After a day of cutting out rust on a customers Grand Torino, the bar project was therapy. I do a lot of rust repair on old cars. It pays good and gives me the money to build my projects, but it still is a pain.
Maybe get the other one done tomorrow or just take a motorcycle ride. 20161217_1601071.jpg

Got my other bar built last night . Going Friday to pick up the rear end. My cage is supposed to be delivered tomorrow along with the seats.
Maybe I can make some real progress by Jan. 20161219_1851181.jpg

This should be a killer ride on the street.
It looks as you still might be in mock-up mode on the front setup. Have you ever thought of what it would look like if you moved the front axle forward an 1"? It might change the looks a lot. Hell I don't know , just a brain fart, but..... Maybe rework the front of the wheel opening. Hummm. Kinda hard to tell from the side pic. Just a wonder ment .

Yes the front end is still in mock up . I have to get some shorter springs and yes the axle is going forward an inch, and the rear end is going back an inch per the rules of the Southeast Gassers which
will make the wheelbase 89 inches. Everybody always says they could use an extra 2 inches.
In this case it might help calm this squirrel down a little bit.
Placed my seats in where they will end up. Need to make the mounts for them today and start putting in the cage. DOugG I drove a V-8 Morris Minor everyday for almost 2 years. The only difference was it had a Mustang 2 front end and an AOD behind a healthy 5.0 . It is a hoot to drive, not good if you are tall though. My Avatar is the under hood shot of my last Morris. 20161221_1456151.jpg

Ya probably have as much room as my chopped 33 willys coupe. Haven't had it on the road in 20+ years, but when I did it was a shoulder to shoulder ride in the car. Squeeze in, leave at midnight and show up bout noon the next day at some NSRA nats. Years and pounds latter I don't know if I can fit in it. K-Y should help. Guess I missed the first post that your racing it.

You need to get that Willys out of moth balls. Lose some weight and enjoy the time you have left.
They told me I had congestive heart failure last year. Lost 40 lbs. ,feel great and the old ticker is fine.
Got my halo bar and roof bar in today. Waiting on my phone to talk to my computer so I can post some pictures. Got one so far. That's my halo bar on the out rigger. You can see how far back in the car you sit in these little cars. 20161222_1352091.jpg

In the last picture, it appears that your rear frame rail is right against the rear wheel opening.. What am I missing? Seems like there wouldn't be room for the wheel and tire?

That is the inside fender well. This car has bolt on fenders. I picked up the rear end today and I will get it mocked up next week. I am putting tubs in the rear and will have room for 10 inch wheels and 28 x10.5 slicks. I have radiused the rear fenders and the tires will probably stick out a few inches.
There is actually about 10 inches from the frame rail to the inside fenderwell.
Thanks Fiddle Picker. This photo shows how far back in the car you have to sit. The center of the halo bar is 12 inches behind the front of the rear side window opening. 20161222_1357201.jpg

What's my offer for a slightly used wheel? This is the rear end off my buddy's 50 Studebaker Starlight coupe. It was in his shop when it caught fire. It had a blown small block and was a brand new car. Had been to the track once 20161224_0803201.jpg

Man, you're half way through your build and I'm still dinking around putting on brake lines. You'll be going down the track about the time I get my clutch hooked up.

Got my rear bars in yesterday afternoon and my front bars in this morning. Waiting for the front bar picture to load on the computer. Will put in the dash bar and some diagonal bars to the main hoop
this afternoon. Not putting the crossbar or the door bars in until the seats and interior sheet metal goes in. I am too old to crawl over and under. 20161225_1458171.jpg

Test fitting the rear end in the car. It fits great, thanks to a good friend for letting me have it. Knowing that someday I will do some more work for him to barter back the cost. 20161226_1446451.jpg

These are just 6 x15 wheels to get an idea.10x15's with 5 in backspacing will be just right. Tires should be 3-4 in outside of the fenders at the most. This is with the rear end back 1 in. from stock wheelbase. 20161226_1449281.jpg

  20. Nice that your leaving the stock dash in. Some of these old cars have really cool dash's and it's a shame when they get cut out and replace with a flat piece of aluminum wrapped around the dash bar.

How many cars have you seen with 2 glove boxes ? I am putting my ignition box in one and my fuse box in the other one. The speedo and gauges were in the middle and I am going to put my gauges in the hole and a tach on the column.

  22. I love your idea regarding the tubing inside the rockers! Our car had very little inner rocker left so I removed it and replaced the entire inner rocker with .125" steel. Welded outriggers to it and welded corresponding outriggers to the new frame rails with hockey pucks between the two...worked out great.
scan0030.jpg Photo was pre-outriggers. Car went on to run [email protected] end was '70 Opel GT.

Got some more bars in yesterday. It is amazing how long it takes to fit the bars so I don't have to get the gap rod out. Should have the seat mounts built by tomorrow. 20161229_1524221.jpg

Are you using leaf springs and floaters in the rear?

Fitted the door bars today. Trying to get as much room for the pedals and my feet .Not too much with the engine set back required. 20161231_1452281.jpg
