Nice coupe! Looks much better now, but save all the stuff you took off of it in case the '70s come back. Lol

Good looking coupe! I think you chose well on what to up grade and what to leave alone. Should be a fine driver. Thanks for sharing!

Loving everything but I would have kept the Cragars. Just my preference.

getting started on my Dad's 1939. Has 327 and Muncie 4 speed with Columbia 2 speed. Does your block hugger headers clear the stock steering box - has have 2 inch dia ramshorn and want to upgrade.

Sanderson makes some shortie headers that only extend 4 inches down and another set swept forward on driver side to clear steering box - but pricey. What was the make of yours?
    Thanks 2016-06-25 15.25.02.jpg

  8. Nice looking coupe.
Unknown, they actually came with an AD p/u I bought. I kept them around, figuring I could put them to use one day.

Nice catch, my first hot rod was a 39 deluxe coupe with a baby nail head running thru the original drive line. Really like what you've done so far.

  11. LOL, I haven't heard from him.

  16. You will need to use the glass, frame/trim, and buckets from a '39 Deluxe ('37 thru '39 standard, are narrower).

  20. yes nice 39....I kinda chose a 9' over the 40.....I liked the windshield pop out.....the upper wipers....the dash....doors without the vents...rear lights....steering wheel...floor shift and actually the front end does get you a little....luckily Bob still had his 39 deluxe after he had sold his 40 standard and I was able to get it.....with some assembly required...

about 15 years ago - I took a rough 1939 Std Coupe - cut the cowl at the windshield post - and changed out the roll out windshield to a 1940. Converted this 39 Std to a 1940 Deluxe. At this time - I had the most spare sheet metal for a 1940 Deluxe. Today - I wish I just kept this coupe and left it a 1939 Standard. I have a 1939 Ford Convertible - bought it while looking for a 1940 ragtop. I really rather have the 39 ragtop - love the rumble seat and the profile of the 39 convertible is much better than the 40 - especially with the top up. But all and all - Ford made great cars in 1939 and 1940 beautiful styling for both years.

  23. Wow!
Todd, It looks fantastic. The scuffed and buffed paint has a nice soft "glow" to it that seems to accentuate the lines of the car.

What a neat story/car. Reminds me of finding and building my '40 coupe. I too like the '39 lights (on '39s). I just had to keep the '40 lights on my car as someone had actually gone to the trouble of having the usually painted standard frames chromed. Most of the '40 standards you see just have deluxe frames swapped over.

brings back great memories ! pretty car , i think it would look better back in wis. !

question: master cyl. has fuel reg. and gauge , are you reg. brake fluid pressure ? if so never scene a set up like this

  26. Thank you
I mounted the fuel pressure regulator and gauge below the master cylinder (the pic makes it almost appear to be plumbed to the m/c), and then to the fuel block..they are for fuel.

rtside rake.jpg Caddy!.jpg Real nice 39 Coupe resurrection for sure!

    Here's mine - with a 1951 331 / now 365cu dual quad Cadillac with a 37 LaSalle 3 speed.

  28. This is a perfect period piece to me and the car is really great condition - nice work! I am partial to 40 Fords as well - I have owned/built several 40 coupes and pickups and there's a 40 pickup 1/3 finished in the garage I will get back to once my 32 5-window is done .....

WOW, I thought I was the only one that loved the 40 standard bezel over the deluxe. The paint instead of chrome is the only drawback. I had mine chromed too. I love the art deco shape of the park light frames. It cost me a fortune to have them chromed but it was worth it.
