That was the first Rod and Custom I ever got. Our Junior High library was throwing out a stack of Hot Rods, Car Craft and what-nots. That copy happened to be in the pile and I snagged it. Still have it.

How funny (or sad) is it that I read your quote on Mad Mikey's post, his statement about crazy wheels (Turbine's to be exact!) and absolutely knew which Rod Action cover this was? I musta read that article a 100 times as a kid.

I gotta admit, I thought turbine mags were ugly in the seventies. I was in the minority then....

  22. A couple of the different ones I've found. Color might be a little off with the led lights.

  23. This T has got to be one of the nicest ones I have ever seen. I remember having this issue and drooling over that car. Who cares what color it was;it is a perfect example of a hot rod.
That said here are some of my favorite covers:

  24. One of the first HOT ROD covers I remember had the SO-CAL cars on it, about '54.
A belly tank, roadster, and coupe.

I was a subscriber to Hop Up in 1953, so when they spun off Rods and Customs, I got two complimentary copies in the mail. Not having exceptional foresight, I threw one away (still have the 2nd copy, though).

Seeing all of the old titles that I still have on my shelf makes me think that I will dig them out and reread them this winter. Better than TV.
