Update... steering shaft separated from the worm gear so I replaced it and rebuilt the steering box. I replaced the bent, leaking valve cover, freshened the carb and found a nice little air filter for it. 12 volt conversion is now complete and worth every penny. The purist in me didn't want to do it, but the car starts better, all the lights are bright and it's definitely more reliable. I bought a replacement transmission for it and have been rebuilding it as need be. Got an oakie bushing to fix the driveshaft and hopefully that's the end of the mechanical side for a while.
Time for an update. It’s been a long time and I’ve done a lot of work on this little car. Carpet, wheel covers, rebuild motor, rebuilt transmission, air-conditioning you name it. Probably best just to post a bunch of pictures.
love what you have done with the car I too have a 53 150 coupe that I have been collecting parts for. Your car makes me want to start on mine !
Thanks. I really like driving this car. I drive it a lot, and I’m not afraid to use it whenever I feel like it. Quite satisfying to have a car I’m not afraid of. I took it to the grocery store this morning. That huge trunk is useful.
Today was a good day. I drove the car 120 miles on the new engine. My 11-year-old and I went to a car show in Savannah. No tools, no surprises heck I even got it up to 70 on the highway.
It's always tense going on your first long ride. I always get so worked-up, and everything generally goes alright. Glad you 2 had fun. Mine cruises suprisingly comfortable at 70. Great Build! I've enjoyed your thread.
No kidding; I just looked at those online last week! They look different on a car than they appear on Speedway's website. Thanks.
I was pleased. I had just gotten ready to pull the trigger on $2000 worth of resto mod tires and wheels and decided to do hubcaps instead.
