Features Kustoms blues? I need to see some kustoms....

In case anyone doesn't recognize it, this IS Grabowski's original "Kookie Car" T, on its way to further madness which culminated in dual blowers, dual slicks, and exhaust headers that would do a pipe organ proud!
The last I heard, Jim Street still owns it, as well as his landmark custom, "Golden Sahara" (also pictured).

 

Yes, Jim still owns them both. Rik Hoving has seen them both, if I recall when they went to Jim's house to interview him for the Jack Steward Ford book. Maybe he just saw Norm's T, but didn't see the Sahara cuz Jim said it needed paint real bad? Either way, they are both indeed still there.

 

That paint would be nearly impossible to replicate today. It was said to be made from pulverized fish scales.
I saw the 'Sahara when it toured the Ford dealerships (1961?), and powdered pearls don't even compare!
At that time, the Sahara also had its translucent tires, another feature lost to the ages. But without their internal lights, I thought them merely to be spray painted gold (thus cheapening the look, in my mind).

That these two cars merit consideration as history's most iconic rod and custom, there should be no argument.

 

Top chopping is so common today, I don't think many people today realize how rare (and special) curved glass chops were when this picture was taken.

 

I believe it's in Japan, going to a show on Sunday. If I see it I'll take some more pics.

Very impressive bodywork getting those fender skirt blisters to line up so nicely on that coupe.

 

Mr. Zocci built so many fine customs that choosing a favorite would be hard for anybody. That being said, I think his '39 Dodge is my favorite. Always been crazy about it, it is so different. Almost everybody who builds 30s taildraggers builds Fords.
Gonna be real different not seeing a new Zocci custom on the show circuit next year. He is missed..........E

 

Must have an awfully rigid chassis under it to have no body seams, only hood trunk and doors.

 

Is this the same car? Or a recreation. Looks like a recreation to me.

 

I have seen the gold sedan at one of the recent Torque Fests and IIRC was said to have been purchased new and customized after it was wrecked. Very nicely done whatever the case was though.

 

I took those picturse at Torque Fest in Davenport a couple years ago. Here is another one I took of it 25 years ago.

 

I'm thinking its two different cars . The three piece rear glass , the headlight eyebrows are longer one car with the body line from the headlight eye brow being more distinct and shorter.

 

If you look at the pic that Moriarity posted #4114. Look threw the passengers side wing window. It looks like a division bar in the rear window. They could of had a whoopsy and changed the frontend. But odds are against it.

Pretty sure two different cars. The trim really fits close to the rear wheel well contour on the one Mark posted.
