...where are the vin numbers located on the 32 fords?.....thanks miller

  2. On the drivers side frame rail on top. There are 3 sets of stamped vins. One by the front left firewall leg and then about have way back middle of rail and then at the up rail in rear by wheel.

  3. Left top frame rail, top of trans and I think crossmember.Serial number.

  6. image.jpg Here's a picture. So mines behind the foot. Iv seen them up front of the foot behind the foot and back of the foot. They were all hand stamped so where ever the guy stamped it is where it will be. They also stamped the top of the transmission but unless you know for sure your transmission is 100% original then you can't go by that.

For Ford cars, the frame numbers started in 1932 with *18-1* (* being a star) and ran consecutive until the end of production in February, 1942. e.g. 1932 V8 18-001 to 18-203,126

From 1932 through 1948 vehicles, Ford Motor Company stamped the serial number into the top of the driver's side frame rail in three locations. ... Of the frame-stamped serial numbers, only the forward-most stamping was visible when looking down into the engine compartment (located between the front cross member and the dash (firewall). The two other frame locations are visible only when the body is removed from the frame. The serial numbers were metal stamped with numbers/letters approximately 1/4" in height....The number (including the prefixes shown) was always preceded by (and followed by) a stamped "star" similar to an asterisk...

The serial numbers were stamped on the vehicles without any commas or superfluous 0's (zeros).
For both it is also on the top of the left frame rail near the steering box. This location is visible without removing anything.

Four cylinder vehicles were numbered *AB-5000001* through *AB-5062386* and *B-5062387* through *B-5178212* (approx, may been as high as *B-5178484*). The * represents a 5 pointed star used to positively identify the start and finish of the number.

Can anyone verify if it was also stamped on the cross member?
    Thanks

I've never seen a crossmember stamped with a serial number. Ever.

There was a long exchange of letters on Ford Barn a few years back as some guy hunted up and down the frame rail for the serial of his '41 Ford; eventually he posted that he had found it, and it was on the front crossmember and not any of the rail locations suggested to him. Further, he had been to the DMV and the car was now happily registered under that number. The number turned out to be 11A-5019...his car was registered under the part number for a '41 Ford crossmember!

My vin number starts with 18R and I was told this was a Canadian number. Can anyone verify that.

My brother has a 33-34 frame from Canada that has a C in the number. I can't remember if it is at the beginning of the regular serial like *C18-xxxxx* or someplace else.

Canadian Serial Numbers Started with *C18-------*
in 1932 for the V-8 model: *C18D-1 through D-10000; then C18R-1 through R-5973. The letter was supposedly used to limit the numbers from getting too long

Finished a cdn 5w * CBQ---* number, 4 banger, original frame. Had to educate license carrier that 32 fords can come without an 18 as the first digits.

My VIN is actually 018RXXXX. Does that mean it is a made up number or what? I am fully registered but curious.

Ford Canada built its own engines back to about the first Fords, and so had its own serial number system. At first, all flatheads came from either the Rouge or Ford Canada, and were in those serial # systems. By the mid 1930's Ford England and Germany were making their own engines, B and V8, and were assigned blocks of USA serials. B's and flatheads were built by them into the 1950's with 221, 239, and B serials running way beyond the lists we see.

Ask David over on the Ford Barn about your VIN. He's very knowledgeable on all matters 32.

  21. No, that would not be a Ford serial number.

Hey hey folks. I have what is "supposed" to be a 32 Ford woody wagon. But it has a vin stamp on the DS frame rail of *B5094286* it's listed as a v18 on the insurance card as well. From reading the thread, it should be a 4cly.. but it is definitely a flat V8 lol any insight would help greatly.

i dont know about other years in vanpelt sales llc serial number information but their 32 information is incorrect.they state 32 v8 numbers 18-1 to 18 -203126 which is incorrect. they were 18-1 thru 18- 212238.the correct information are in these books sourced from actual ford production records.these books are early ford as henry built it by edward francis and early ford production books by beverly de angelis. i have a bonifed 32 that the previous owner owned for 70 years and it is serial number star 18 207--- star
