It is a Berkeley. Power was provided by a British Anzani twin-cylinder 322 cc two-stroke engine producing 15 bhp (11 kW; 15 PS)[7] and mounted transversely, driving the front wheels via a chain and three-speed gearbox. The engine was already used by various motorcycle manufacturers such as Cotton and Greeves, but in the Berkeley was fitted with a Siba Dynastart to provide both battery charging and electric starting. It was a very advanced two-stroke engine which incorporated a rotary inlet valve mechanism in the centre of the crankshaft.

Great pictures, just what I was looking for!

Some quick questions though, to the guys who might know:

The plane tickets from Norway around the weekend of the last race in November are dirt cheap now, so I'm considering a quick trip over to visit friends and also catch this event.

Is this November weekend any good with regards to the number of cars racing? And is the weather normally predictable enough for the event to not being cancelled due to rain etc?
Also, can you see anything at all as a regular spectator, or do you have to stand a mile away from all the action and the cars? Or are the barriers I see in the pictures for us lowly peasants too?
I will be staying with a friend in OC, so I won't need a hotel, only parking.

Sorry about the basic questions, but as others have stated, this is a bucket list item I really want to cross off!

    Regards from Oslo, Norway
    Paal

You can get very near to the cars and see the running quite well. Nobody can help you much with the weather. I ran one weekend when it snowed. Most have been pretty nice. Some were rained out. PS. We ran the weekend it snowed. I think it's $15 per car per day to be on the lake. Well worth it.

Good meet today. First car at 7:35 am. 3 rounds were offered, #66 roadster was top speed at 247 I believe. My son and I sat SDRC #9 return road patrol all day. Mostly a slight breeze all day to keep the dust moving. Seems weird but the were both head and tail winds at different times after 1:00 pm. Some were lucky others not. I think to bike was 230. 3 or 4 flat spins and don't think anyone went out the back door.

In 60' after being at the lake bed all day we would go to our hang out Bob's in Van Nuys, and you didn't dare wash your car so the guys could see the lakes dust all over it ' Cool Then - Cool Now '

Some things just never change, DND

If you are planning a LARS trip....start a week early and spend a day at El Mirage. Then kill a couple days before the shop tours and the swap meet starts.
Do it, you will thank me later.

IMG_1132.JPG IMG_1130.JPG This is what every competitor wants to see. It been 9 years and 3 months since we were in impound @ El Mirage. We made it by 9/10 mph. With it comes a dirty race car.
