Welding has commenced on passenger side! Hopefully it will be ground down tonight! May be able to test fit headliner next week!

Passenger side of the roof is welded and I'm getting the new rocker panels fit to get installed tomorrow![IMG]

I end up getting the passenger side rocker on along with the door sill. Got the door to fit better. Now the hole in the floor....[IMG][IMG][IMG]

I'm trying hard to put a headliner in on Friday! The family is out of town for 2 weeks so I'm trying to get the time consuming stuff done so my daughter can come out and help in the garage without hurting herself. She's 3.

Not the best floor patch I've done but it will work.

Found these on the internet, this is about what I want the finished paint job to look like. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Roof looks pretty good all smoothed out. Ten year chop, not to bad considering unemployment, marriage, and kids. [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Headliner is hanging. Alittle bit of a pain to do by your self. Got to rotate the bows alittle bit more to come forward, but it's up. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

My first '51 looked like that. It's not the direction I want my current '51 to go in, but I'm curious to see how you are going to achieve that look.

I'm glad I found this thread, not sure how I've missed it for all this time. Like most folks, I really like '49-51 Mercurys, and especially '51's. Nice work, and thanks for posting for everyone to see.

I can't afford to do all the chrome work so I figured making it look like it has a wore out paint job would get me by. Won't stay that way but should work for awhile.

Your welcome. I've been wanting to build a 51 2-door after building my first merc that was a 50 4-door turned 51 2-door hardtop.

I end up finding a couple construction pics of the old merc when I did the Lincoln taillights. [IMG][IMG][IMG]
The old merc, I set the gas filler under the taillight. May have to do it again?

  28. Cool build pics! So, on the first Merc, does the tail light push in to get to the filler?

Yes. My only original idea for the merc. I never got a chance to get it completely finished. But that's how I was going to put gas in. Now having a exhaust bender, may be able to improve the design alittle bit to make it easier to fill.

  30. That's a neat idea! I look forward to seeing all how you do it. I like the idea of the filler being there and kinda still "outside" but hidden rather than in the trunk. My merc still has the filler door and neck as stock, but my Chevy has the filler in the trunk. That's kind of a pain, especially when it's full of luggage and you don't want your stuff full of fumes and gas drips. ;)
