the cover looks like a Dana 44. See the little 44 number cast on the pass side of the housing, just below the axle tube?

the flange and axles look like something weird/foreign...maybe it's out of a Rolls Royce or Land Rover or something equally strange.

as for the brakes...they look like Bendix stuff. measure the wheel cylinder inside diameter, and get some that size, and also get some 11x2 shoes, like for a Chevy or Ford pickup from the 60s, see if they match. no self adjusters, probably from the mid 1960s or older?

jeep....maybe? they did use 5.5" bolt circles on a lot of them.

maybe a J-100 to be that wide? they had the right bolt pattern and brake shoe size.

Some '67 or '68 Chevy Suburbans had Dana 44 axles. Very strong rear axle with it's 8.5" ring gear. Lots of ratios available too.

That pic reminds me of the rearend in my 40 and it was harvested from a 54 Ford pickup. They have 5.5" bolt patterns.

I only see one pic as well, so not sure what Jim is seeing, but it looks like an early-mid fifties F-1-f100 rear to me as well. Popular choice for a hot rod back when.

there were more pics with the first post, they vanished. The axles have small pilots, and screws to hold the drums on. Flat, kind of square looking yoke.

I will make a guess as I see no photos of the drive flange but 57 jag xk 140 had the drums with screws holding them on and was a dana 44. Also 5 and half bolt pattern. You will find a lot of off the shelf ford parts that came on Jags of this period. I might be correct but its hard to tell with no photo to compare,,

I had a similar in a car years ago. Coarse spline if I recall and 4.11:1 ratio. It came out of an old 53 Customline and was 5x4.5BP not the larger F100 BP.

    make a choice....looks like you have a Dana 44 or a Chrysler 9.25 upload_2016-11-22_6-44-53.png

  25. IH used them in everything too. I once used a scout 2 44 in my 55 Chevy. I moved the spring perches. But otherwise it was a direct swap. Just had to carry around 2 spares for the 2 lug patterns. Somewhere on one of the axle tubes there should be numbers stamped that will tell you everything about it.
Do you have pics of the drums and brakes?

    no picture....try again.

How about buying a normal yoke for it, and use a normal drive shaft with normal U joints
