Love this thing! Looks like my 64 wagon! What size rear tire is that in a radial and did you have to mini tub it?

Man, this thread sure gets the blood pumping.
Those are some great pictures, of a really killer cars. Even if I am a 427 Ford guy, and a 65 Comet lover, these are one sweet car! Hope to see more of them...
    Thanks

At risk of losing my FORD card here but I have always dug 64-65 Chevelles. I think the 64 Fairlanes and Chevelles are automotive cousins!:p

  10. I'm with you tommyd. I've read a quote from Malcom Durham of Stip Blazer fame who said he used the Ford Thunderbolt as his template when he built the '64 Chevelle. You could say they are cut from the same cloth...

I have been waiting YEARS to be able to post a pix of my '65 SS convert. on the HAMB. I'd have been handed my ass on here if I had posted this some years ago.
I owned it from 1968 to 1994. I drove it to Cali. in 1970 on my honeymoon. I dragged it at Lebanon Valley. Restored it twice (150,000 miles ) and sold it to buy my first hot rod ,a 1940 Ford coupe.
I've had hot rods ever since.
The Chevelle went to a retired policeman in Topsfield,Ma. and I never saw it again.
Do I miss it ? Nahhhhhh.

I should mention this is a 327 /300 horse 4 speed car. Engine badges said 250 HP but running the numbers stamped on the motor and checking the carb and exhaust it was a true 300hp. I could stay with the 350 horse version until 4th gear and then they'd pull away.

My Buddy Allen bought a 65 Malibu with a sun tach on the dash It was tripple black. I believe it was a 327 not completely sure. I drove it after his wedding, he said lose the SOB's who were following, we did. Delivered him and new wife to another car and I parked his SS.

Here's our old 65, it was bought new by my father-in-laws cousin. Her ex-husband was trying to turn it into a drag car and ran out of money. They let it sit outside with no top for 18 years before Debs dad bought it and gave it to us. We went the other way with it, 300hp 327, M-21 muncie, power steering brakes and top. It's artesian turquoise.

  15. I too am a huge Chevelle lover. I sold my '70 GTO too soon in life, that I bought new, and regretted almost immediately for offing the thing. I found an immaculate '71 Chevelle SS shortly afterwards and snapped it up. I'm not going to show a picture of it here or dwell too much on it because it is an OT automobile on our HAMB.(I've read the rules).
I wanted a Chevelle ever since the day I saw a new '64 being dropped at my local Chevrolet dealership back in my teenage years.
My hot rods will all come and go. I've moved on from many other neat vehicles I've owned in the past, some happily, others... regrettably.
My Chevelle is a keeper. It will probably accompany me to my grave.
    Fantastic product from the General!

The only car I've ever owned that I regretted selling is my old Marina Blue '67.

Been putting off posting photos of my 65, lost whole packet years ago, so until my high school bud finds the ones he says he took, this one will have to do.

    65 Chevelle drag car.jpg

It was my first drag car, early 70's(just a kid)355/B-W Super T-10/Olds/Pont. 513's, Grumpy lump hood scoop, notice the Dodge Coronet leaf springs, wasn't my idea but they worked ok.
Not so funny story: previous owner had installed Porsche reclining bucket seats, did not know that the catch was a little dicey, first pass ever(PIR) do my burnout--launch--second gear, holey shit I'm looking at the headliner(at night), pull myself up find first gear, continue on. Not what you would call a great first experience at the drag strip. Note to self-- change shorts, fix seat.
Needless to say kid goes home glad to not have to replace any sheet metal.
    Hopefully track photos to follow.

Strip Blazer II, which became Strip Blazer III used the Z16 out of Malcolm's street car. So yes, he ran both a Z11 and a Z16 in this car. Probably the only guy ever to have run these two motors in a singular car.

No photos yet of my car on the track
I have a question for the NW guys
Early 70's there was a green 65 Chevelle that IIRC raced at Woodburn and PIR
Called Dukers Double Trouble, I think it was owned by Dave Duker
This car was always immaculate and ran like stink, anyone remember it
Sorry I could not find any photos.

Just to give this thread a little nudge
Not a true drag race Chevelle but had this when I was just a pup.
    Kinda rare nowadays.
Had a 425 Olds/Muncie/12 bolt, I thought it was pretty hot for a kids car.

Here's one you don't often see, really nice looking car. I love the drag race history of these old F/X cars, but would love to have this as a street machine now! Taken at Green Valley in Tx.
