How do you get the dustcap out after the retainer is out? Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
punch and sheet metal screw? or just use a punch, it will push the kingpin out enough that it will push the other cap out, then you use the punch the other direction.
Ok, I was able to get the caps off but, the pin will not budge. Any thoughts? It is greased.... no idea why it would not tap out. The lock pin is out.... help? Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
If that is a kingpin from a 46-48 Chevy, they are usually in there real good. I used a combination of heat, a BFH, a proper sized punch (5/8"?), and lots of cussin and eventually it came out. I sharpened up a 3/16 spike and drove it into the top surface of the cap, and sort of picked it out.
Dunno what kingpin you are working with but if early Ford the kingpin has a top to it, not part of the dustcap. Best not be knocking that piece off, it's welded on.
36roadster, it's a '48 Chevy Coupe. Sounds like I need a bigger hammer! Hhaha! Thanks for the info, I'll get it sooner or later. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
