History Walter P. Chrysler Museum Closing

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by bobg1951chevy, Nov 7, 2016.

  1. I was hoping to fit in a trip to the museum, while traveling next week, but discovered the museum will only be open November 19, 20 and December 17 and 18.
Two weekends only, no week days.
    That's it. Phooey !

I remember making the pilgrimage up to Wisconsin for a last look at the Brooks Stevens Museum.....Museums should be forever, not just at the whim of a bean counter.

Enjoyed the pictures. It looks like good visitor activity and a great museum. Sorry I missed visiting the museum. A real snap shot of history. My wife and I volunteer at The High Desert Museum south of Bend OR. It's run as a non-profit. To bad something couldn't be worked out like that.

Is office space that hard to find ? It seems like Fiat could find another building for their cubicles. It's going to cost a lot of money to do this building over, and move everything. Then pay to store everything. Isn't a museum kind of like fancy storage anyway. This seems like a stupid idea. Get another building that's ready to go, and like Latigo said figure something like a non profit out. It might even be cheaper. But I'm sure the idiots in charge just don't care.

  5. Looking into this further brings some interesting information to light. It closed to the public in 2012 and just reopened to the public in June of this year and has only been open weekends since it reopened. Clearly they did not get enough interest to justify keeping it open. Probably like here everyone gets up in arms when it closes but then when they try and make a go of it again no one shows up but are quick to criticize the company for not keeping it open.

  6. maybe they did a poor job getting the word out that it was open again. my kid works within site of the museum and didn't know it was open weekends since june. they just had a open house in October and no one knew we could walk across the parking lot and go to the museum. with the size of the crowd that weekend someone sure dropped the ball.

A final memory from the Cunningham museum: I was told by a person who's word I trust is that Mr. Cunningham would come to the museum in late December of each year and look at the financial books. There was always a loss reported in the final audited box. Mr. Cunningham would reach for his check book and write out a check for the loss amount, hand it to the staff, wish them a happy holiday and new year and drive away in his car. Every year. Remarkable man Mr. Cunningham.

Nice pictures from the WPC Museum John. I see my 36 DB Pickup nose on the right in the 1st picture and my wife behind the "Color Me Gone" picture. Good thing you didn't catch me, would've broke your camera I'm sure!

  11. Unless you have some canvas that you throw paint on. Or smash a home appliance with an axe.

  12. My family made to the museum on sunday. The place was packed. At times it was hard to find a seat to watch the movies in the theater. We have gone several times over the years. Very little has changed. If they had changed things up with different cars on display things may have gone better attracting more people to stop in. The gift shop was a empty room. That was too bad. I was looking for stocking stuffers. The first pic shows a full lot on a cold sunday morning 20161218_112328.jpg 20161218_114052.jpg 20161218_112545.jpg 20161218_092353.jpg 20161218_094930.jpg 20161218_100838.jpg 20161218_100144.jpg 20161218_100906.jpg 20161218_100851.jpg 20161218_102842.jpg 20161218_111854.jpg 20161218_101254.jpg 20161218_095926.jpg 20161218_102109.jpg 20161218_100126.jpg 20161218_111632.jpg 20161218_095940.jpg 20161218_111649.jpg 20161218_111921.jpg 20161218_102201.jpg 20161218_103534.jpg
