    Very cool indeed!

Here's some pics of a 'restored' Australian road racer, based on a mid 30's Hudson. Same idea I guess...

    Cheers, Glen.

  2. I like it!

Not to fond of the grille, and as already stated by someone else, Im guessing that was replaced later in the life of the build. Id like to see this thing going down the road! Better yet, Id like to be driving that one down the road!! Great find!

Interesting construction of the car. There are no holes for a speedo or tach. Nice looking tube frame. A tag has been removed from the dash above the gauges. It looks to me that the buick engine and transmission may have been added later than the original build due to the cutting of the floor and firewall seen in the interior floor.

It definitely has a story behind it. You should be able to find some history somewhere. My two cents is to not touch the car until you find out about it. Nice find!

  9. I agree with the notion of a few generations of work on the car. Strange shock doin's on the front, cheesy HL brackets, '70's hot rod steering wheel . "Screwy" body work,w/angle iron.
Certainly very interesting, all the same.

I think most will agree that the rad shell , grill and steering wheel don't match the build and the head light stands are( yunk). The patch on the fire wall and the over sized hole in the floor, says that there was a different engine and trans. in it at one time or another and don't get me wrong I,m in love:eek: and hope you find some history on the car.

Being you are in Arizona, didn't they have road races in the desert? Like Doane Spencer's car was built for? And Pikes' Peak? they had purpose built cars for them, that might have been what they intended to do with it.

There is a lot of stuff in those containers, was this a private stash, estate sale?

This is something from our private stash. We may or may not get some work done on the mystery machine this year. That's the trouble with having a bunch of projects going on. Good thing is we have Buick 8s piled up like cord wood so we could probably drive this thing in a weekend. Time will tell.

Just seeing it move would make me as giddy as a schoolboy.

But just more pics would make me happy.

So, it's been awhile since I've updated this thread... and pretty much nothing has been done to the car. Well, things are going to start happening since it's taking up valuable real estate in the back bay/lift. Our plan is to yank the motor in it and swap it with one of our Bonneville bullets... the one we broke the XXO/PRO record on the Salt back in 2013. Should make for a peppy little street creeper. Still wondering who may have built the car so if you guys have any ideas we'd love to hear them. Please don't expect tons of updates as this will be a back burner project and I'll probably put just a few hours a week into it as I can.

To me, it just looks like its inspired by Briggs Cunninghams famous Bu-Merc. Hardly "mysterious"...

I don't see any evidence of bracketry for cycle fenders, so it probably wasn't intended for sports car racing. It looks like the grill surround is an old (20s) truck shell. The barbecue grate & the 'trim' around the opening really drag it down.
Is it an optical illusion, or is there very little ackermann?
