  7. I assume you are going to use them for YOM registration. Be sure to check to see what your state DMV thinks about restoring the plates.

Exactly. This is the FIRST thing to do. There are 50-states, several territories, and a district that ALL have different laws.

I just today got my '54 Missouri truck license back from "the guy in Arkansas". He did a great job on a fairly well beat up plate. Heartily recommended!

And there is a guy in Blue Springs, MO, that has thousands of old plates. If you need a YOM, let me know and I'll put you on to him.

Eddie, before you restore your plates the NYDMV requires a picture of the plates unrestored. Then they will run them thru their database and send you a approval. They will not accept them if they are restored. After they are approved then restore them, but it's illegal, according to the DMV to restore them, but who's going to know.

  12. Back in 2000, Ohio had the deal of the century, I thought.
I bought their OHIO HISTORIC PLATE, then presented my 1951 OHIO YOM plate, in person.
They added the YOM plate number to the OHIO HISTORIC PLATE registration, with a ONE TIME FEE OF $10.00, VALID FOR 50 YEARS.
50 YEARS FOR TEN BUCKS !

  14. Touchy deal in California, the law reads "The car must have been manufactured after 1922 and be a least 25 years old. Your car must also be of "historical interest." According to the California Vehicle Code, the car is of historical interest if "it is collected, restored, maintained, and operated by a collector or hobbyist principally for purposes of exhibition and historic vehicle club activities." Which means no driving it as transportation, and while it's easy to say "I was going to a Club Show" I do know of a guy who got ticketed and the historic plates revoked when the cop saw him on a Tuesday afternoon cruising the beach. The judge was also of the opinion that his Hot Rod was Not a restored vehicle! Just a thought to be aware of ........

I did this one for my Shoebox Ford. Has to be original colors here in MI. It's original-ish.

So I picked what I thought was the colors.

California DMV is no day at the beach.
My '47 is in NON op status, has black with yellow plates ('56 edition) but has had them for years.
Enough said, really want to keep 'em.

Salvage yard equivalent to a dealer plate.

  27. One great thing here in Ohio is; when you use YOM plates you only have to use the rear one. Regular Ohio requires use of both plates & we all know it sucks to have a front plate on a good car

I forgot to throw this in: Under Missouri law (301.130.5, RSMo) most Missouri motor vehicle registrations require two license plates to be displayed on the vehicle (front and rear). The exceptions include motorcycles, vehicles with historic Year of Manufacture registrations
