Yep, I'm at that point. Fabbing the floorboards now for the roadster. I'd like to see how everyone made their trans tunnel covers. Materials, process, etc. Thanks in advance!
D Russ had a Great Tech week thread on making tranny tunnels check out the link I also made one on my 37 Plymouth build thread below, but I recommend highly D Russ's thread Hobo Jim http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/tech-week-–-build-a-removable-trans-tunnel-with-virtually-no-tools.993327/
Here's the favorite of us 15 year old kids who got a floor shift conversion for Christmas in 1961 ...
I have a channelled '29 Chev roadster and I'm nearly 6'4", so I made a new floor dropped down between the rails.
Had a big chunk of left over log from when we built our house so I just used it as a form and used big ass mallet.. Beat, bang, hammer, cuss, beat, bang, hammer, cuss etc. etc. and about an hour later you end up with the.
Here's mine-I made it out of 16 Gauge, and wanted it to be removable- I did it the hard way-I took a piece of 9" heavy wall pipe, and used a rubber mallet to shape it-I used Rivnuts to hold it down-I also used flat strap to reinforce the outsides (and to mount it)- I'm pretty sure that I could beat the Hulk in an arm wrestling match now (I thought my right arm might fall off)- Doing it again, I think I would start with a slip roll and move on from there, or do an Ian Roussel and lay it on a bench with a piece of pipe to "cone" it-
A handy friend who is building a 1933 Ford 5 window made this trans cover from a flat piece of tin....
View attachment 3376239 Here's a pic of mine that I just fiinished, and a link to the fab work: http://www.clubhotrod.com/hot-rod-build-logs/55599-1931-model-coupe-8.html
The dude before me butchered the floor pretty good. As for the bellhousing part, I rolled a chunk of 18ga over my knee and trimmed to fit. -Abone.
Looking sharp; we butchered up a decent original floor in a '33 last week, not as bad,; but your pictures provide some good ideas for this model 40.
18 gauge, 3 pieces. the shaped piece on the end was old fashion tuck shrunk then planashed over a gas bottle cap
I'll fix that The old and the new, still in progress. Funny thing is people ask me where the traffic cone went.
I re-re-re-made this one. It is now welded in and has a groovy aluminum plate that holds the boots. The shifter/e-brake hole was and after-after thought as was the relief for the go pedal.
