Will a Muncie bolt up to existing crossmember when replacing a TH350. Ie, pulling out a turbo 350 trans and sticking a 4spd in it, will the crossmember have to be moved? Driveshaft? will it stay the same or need cutting?
    thanks, Oj

Depends on the length of the 350 tail Shaft you already have

If it's a short shaft TH350, it will fit fine. If the trans is an M-22 (doubtful), you'd need the 32 spline, larger slip yoke; otherwise, they use the same slip yoke. You'll need a pilot bushing or bearing in the end of the crankshaft. Transmission mount/crossmember is in the same location. What is the vehicle you're doing this with? I too don't understand why the rear main seal would now leak????? I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

X2 on rear main, any Rear main seal can leak even with automatic or no trans connected

Maybe IF there was already excessive clearance with the rear main BEARING thrust, and with continuous operation of the clutch, especially a HD clutch, there could be some movement of the crankshaft, and it MIGHT contribute to a rear main SEAL leak. The crank would have had to lose it's "thrust" bearing surface. Even that's a stretch. Torque converters can "balloon", and that could place more pressure against a rear main bearing, and therefore the rear main seal, possibly leading to a rear main seal leak. Lots of ifs, maybes, and shoulda-woulda-coulda's. Not sure I buy it.

An auto trans engine runs for the most part without the crankshaft moving fore and aft against the thrust bearing. As soon as you step on the clutch it moves the crank up against the thrust and your 2piece seal is now on a slightly different place on the crank. If you've ever felt the spot it is a slight groove. Now the crank is moving back and forth as you step on the clutch changing gears and the seal lets oil out. Actually an old rope seal engine had a better chance of not leaking. Pre 85 SBC's will leak.
