    That the cars stay on 'show' for the advertised time.
    Over here the drive in type shows typically advertise 9am - 2pm, with most leaving before midday.
    If you turn up late morning most are leaving.

    I don't like car "shows", by far I prefer a simple cruise night. Not there for the trophies, I go to socialize with my friends, sometimes I never make it around to look at the cars. I particularly hate parking lot shows where some business wants me to bring my car and spend my time roasting in the sun for free so they can promote their business, all for a chance for some chezzy trophy which is usually fixed anyway. Lot of local guys go to every one, we have a bunch of trophy whores here.
    I agree with the music, I like it but why do these DJ's think you got to play it so loud?

  6. In all my years with this "car stuff", I have never understood WHY, if the show is 9 A.M. to 4 P.M,, WHY is it the "in thing" to leave the show by 2 P.M.?? :confused:

  7. A fine idea !

    I don't go to small shows anymore. I would rather just go out for ride then sit at some show and see the same cars that I can see for free at a cruise night. The only shows I do go to are goodguys and nsra and frog follies.

    I attend pretty much the same 4-5 shows every year, and a couple cruise nights. I honestly don't know which of those shows hand out trophies, and which ones don't. Should I make sure and ask next year? And if any of those shows DO give out trophies, and I stop attending them, do I get like extra HAMB points or anything? Does my name get entered in a draw at the end of the year for free engineer boots or anything?

    All of the above...

    ...and especially these. I go to car shows for the cars. I want to see really well done cars, examples of exceptional craftsmanship, and ideas that are new to me. Everything else is secondary, although grass and shade are way better than paved parking lots. And a good breakfast burrito counts for a lot.

    I like seeing new build cars at shows. You see lots of the same cars over and over in my small town. I am tired of muscle cars too. The local Rod and custom club puts on a bigger show that has a good out of town draw. There are bigger shows close by within 100 miles. I don't like any interstate driving in an old car. I love music also bit j agree it is almost always too loud.

    I would rather go to a good crus -in. Shows can keep their loud music. If the show is for charity I will attend. I don't like brand new cars in any show.

    This thread has gotten off track. Really looking for what are aspects you enjoy during your attendance of a car show . Not weather or not you like to attend shows at all

    1. Cars it's suppose to be a car show. I like pre '48 and tri fives as long as they are hot rods, but I'm ok
    with cars up to the 70's.
    2. Visiting friends.
    3. Vendors and a swap meet just for some added entertainment.
    Just as soon wash clothes as go to a cruise in.

    This morning at 6:30 I Left my home in my 32 roadster in 40 degree temps and drove to the largest car shown/ cruise in the USA called Caffeine and Octane in Dunwoody Ga. the first Sunday of the mouth, 2,400 hundred cars and 10, ooo spectators. The neat thing about show is its free, its segregated, meaning classic and hot rods in one section, new American muscle, exotic foreign car and a hodgepodge of just wild neat things in other sections. So spectators can go to the cars they like. the rewards are you are none stop answering questions about your ride, and a lot of pictures being taking. The most memorable part of the morning was a young child asking me if my car was a A or B model, and no music. This has become my favorite event, just sort of laid-back and no pressure. Found out talking to Bryan Fuller that Velocity has been filming Caffeine and Octane for upcoming shows to start airing March with fuller being host, so maybe my car will show up on national cable station!

    I go to quite a few shows as a spectator, and what can make a show for me is the people. Show participants that don't go off and hide, will take the time to tell you about their car and the parts used( yes- probably for umpteen time that day to someone) As opposed to stopping by a vehicle several times to ask some silly ass question and nobody around. :confused: Thanks to you that do that and help to promote our hobby!
    I love to enjoy cars from all angles / dislike cars roped off, although I understand the thought process of protecting the cars- I think I've seen just about as many possible problems with the Wind pushing the ribbon/ rope on the car and poles falling over / not to mention the raising and lowering for cars leaving early! Couple of random thoughts- L7

    Attractive to me is being able to park next to my friends in a non-judged, non-classed area.

    So most of the time I end up parking in the parking lot at smaller local shows.

    It always puzzled me why you should pay to have people come see your car. I can park at Walmart and have a crowd when I come out. If you have an entry fee you should get a coupon for grub from the vendors. Personally I like the music if it is not too loud and appropriate and shade is huge in Fl. I just don't think there is enough thanks for the cars that bring people there.

    I go to very few local shows. Most participants have new Corvettes, Mustangs, SSR's, and the like. All with the hoods open and their owners sitting next to them like they built them. The only big shows I go to is the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion that has non stop nostalgia drag racing and the NSRA Street Rod Nationals which usually has over 10,000 cars to look at.

    The perfect recipe...

  26. #1 A GOOD ( meaning useful for pre 60's) swap meet.
    #2 Regular cars (no high dollar or rat rods)
    #3 Refer to #1.

    I guess that really wouldn't be a "car show". Kinda like the swap area at LARS. :)

    My Top 3 preferences for a car show.
    1) I prefer some of the proceeds go to a charity.
    2) Great Venue. (County Fair Ground, race track, park. Please have more than just a black top parking lot)
    3) Other entertainment (Live bands, racing, pin up contest, swap meet, hot rod art auction, etc..)

    Vintage Torque Fest, Back To The 50's St. Paul, and the Iron Invasion have it nailed.

    CUT OFF DATE is #1 and 1965 is stretching my personal interest. Swap meet is a plus, but the good ones are few and far between. Cars on grass is always nicer than black top.

    • Drive to and from, plenty of shade, reasonable food, no late models or billet, my how my tastes have changed from years ago. Maybe a decent swap without too much bric-a-brac;
    • If run by a charity as a fund raisier with volunteers I've no problem paying fees, but when you provide the entertainment and have to pay to enter as well as spectators, no thanks;
    • Sponsors and entrants paying for trophies and profits into someone' pocket, NO. I'm not there for trophies but to socialise, see new cars and ideas. Car clubs raising funds are OK as long as they donate some proceeds to a worthy charity
